I would very much appreciate any pointers as to how to create a false floor. I know that if you put a rug on top of an item, then move the item away, the rug stays in the air. The only trouble is when I try to jump on it or walk on it I just fall through.

I assume that you can walk on the false floors that all you expert fitters make.

Some rugs seem to work others you fall through from memory i use the rough linen rugs but best bet would be go to the house that inspired you to make the false floor and look at the rugs they used there may be a few you can walk on and you might like the look of the ones they have better.

Thanks for that, I was beginning to think that my monk was just too heavy and I would have to put her on a diet.

Can anyone point me too a narrower rug that works. I'm just trying to make a narrow raised platform rather than a full size floor.

the antonican rug (for small areas - VERY small areas)

and the rough linen rug for larger areas (work very well to "tile" a floor)

These are both "tangible" rugs. Im sure there are more, but these are the ones I use. Also, you do not have to place the rug on top of anything. Simply place the rug where you want it by holding down the ctrl button while scrolling your mouse wheel. This will change the vertical location of your rug removing the need of "helper" furniture.

Generally what I do (since the tangable rugs are see through from underneath) is cover my faux floor with other rugs such as:

coalition ornate rug

chic cloth rug

This makes it so that my faux floor is not see through, otherwise if your faux floor is an upper level you can see straight through to the ceiling as well as all the furniture you place in your faux room.

best of luck to you. Oh, btw, the images came from EQ2TradersCorner, which has a wonderful furniture database.

I've heard about some commands to do these things, but I've never known what they are, and/or where they are listed. I know the raw scroll wheel is rotation, but I don't know what all the other "tricks" are (crouching, etc, doesn't always completely work for some placements).

The placements are one click at a time so they dont always work in every situation. Sometimes you have to place another item of an odd heigth first, then the item you want to place and ctrl wheel from there to get it where you want it. It can be tricky, but the ctrl+mmw feature has proved to be very useful even with its limitations.

In a related question, are there wall-banners that you can walk through? I'd love to have a kind of hidden room in my house, but those banners are rock solid.

When you want in, (or out), click the desired book case, select move....walk through it, and hit the escape key to put it back where it belongs. This has the added benefit of keeping visitors out of areas you don't want them in.

I greatly prefer the T7 rare rug, made with nimbus root. While it's a lot more expensive to use, it's both tangible AND has a bottom (meaning you don't have to play around with two layers of carpets) and it's relatively large, meaning you can cover a pretty good size area with them. I made my altar room in my house in SQ using them by working off the little ledge, and using craftable tapestries and a temporary bookcase (used to place the tapestries) as walls. And the CTRL type placement options are still quite new. You can also use them on wall-bound objects to turn them at angles (I used one of the collection tapestries to make a sort of wallpaper for a lower room by hiding the top wooden part in the little corners).
