I admit I'm newly back to EQ2 so I might have missed something.

Why do the Teir'Dal residence of Neriak want to kill the Thexians. Is it because the Thexians want a pure society and the Teir'Dal of Neriak are allowing others in to the city and aligning with others (Freeport)?

I would imagine the Thexians must have been really disappointed after they found Neriak and it wasn't going to be the pure society they imagined?

Does this makes sense? Trying to have some fun with the Lore. <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" width="15" height="15" />

In a sense, that's exactly it.

Despite that King Naythox Thex was assassinated during the War of the Fey, the Thexians are still loyal to his cause. They decided that Queen Christanos would only bring ruin to the empire, so while she sealed off Neriak from contact with the surface, the Thexians stayed behind to try and find a way back into Neriak and hopefully persuade Christanos to go back to the way things were.

I think it's more the first part of Cusa's answer. The majority of the Thexians were loyal to King Naythox (if they were alive at the time), and are now loyal to his son, Prince...something, can't remember his name, but he was in the Tunare and Inny prelude quests before EoF came out. One of the things that contributed to the Thexian defeat in Faydwer was the lack of support from back home.

The hate between Cristanos and Nathox is nigh legendary. When Naythox went off to war in Faydwer, it looks like Cristanos saw an opportunity to rid herself of her spouse once and for all. In fact, some say that it was a Teir'Dal assassin who killed King Naythox, though the actual reports of such are almost impossible to find. There is some reference to such a plot in the Dragoon Zytl - Blood Rank, but so far, this is the only insight into such a plot, and it would be unwise to take assuredness in a single man's testimony, however, it would be in-line with the Queen, and the politic of Neriak.

So what we see is almost a Teir'Dal civil war. One group is allied with the Queen, who now holds Neriak in an iron grip, as well as the Teir'Dal colonies within the Underfoot, assumably. The other group is allied with the son of Naythox Thex, and rightful heir to his throne. You see, the prince, by blood line, could actually be crowned king. Unfortunately, the Thexians (supporters of the prince) are fairly scattered, and the actual location of the prince is a secret that the Thexians are not willing to share, lest someone (The Overlord, Queen Antonia, Queen Cristanos, Queen..what's her face of Kelethin) see an advantage in knocking off the leader of the Thexian faction. Obviously Queen Cristanos and her faction (Nerians) would probably have the most to gain, as most Teir'Dal would probably prefer to return home rather than remain under the heel of a human, even if he is a lich.

This is pretty much how I view the relationship of the Thexians and Tier'Dal as well. The Thexians are not only enemies to the Nerians, but they are enemies to the Tier'Dal of Longshadow Alley as well, ever since they first established a settlement in Freeport. There used to exist a quest in Longshadow where you would turn in to a Freeport Militia captain the whereabouts of a known Thexian. I'll try to gather more information on the subject.
