Just hit lvl 20 last night and got the Alacrity spell. But i was not able to put this on our group tank because of lack of concentration slots. Will the personae ever take less slots? I believe it is 3 which reduces our buff allowance big time. With haste and group mana regen i was out of slots. Any tips on what to keep up ect..

Personae is for soloing - you should not be using it in groups really...

Yeah, don't use your personae in groups generally. Put haste on all the melee, and then see what room there is for group buffs. At 35 when you get Intensity, you'll have even fewer conc slots for group buffs with that going on all the mages, and possibly priests.

The powerregen doesnt use a conc slot.

Depending on the groupsetup and how you like to play, the pet adds a good amount of dps to the group.

Unless i have 2 other mages in the group I always run with a pet. I never use our 2 group buffs tho.

when i solo the only group buff i have is mana regen, using one conc slot. shileding also does not use a slot. i keep intensity on both me and my pet for a little more DPS when i solo. when i group in a full group i do not use pet. when i duo with my gf i sometimes use pet and my solo set up .

Wow, a lot of misinformation here...

1) Mana regen and Shielding does NOT take up a Conc slot, as stated by some posters already

Why/when use a pet? Why/when use Group buffs?

There is no set circumstances on when to have your pet up, group buffs, or single target buffs... It really depends on your group. Maybe you're grouped with a melee 5 lvls lower than you, maybe your tank sucks or needs extra stuns / dazes to stay alive, maybe you need your pet to act as a decoy when you get aggro or be used to pull, etc. Here's some general guidelines though...

2) Haste is your most "bang for the buck" buff. When deciding who to buff 1st, "usually" (remember that low lvl melee) it's best to pass out haste. Haste your rangers, scouts, fighers in that order unless there's a huge discrepancy in DPS if you're parsing (your Brigand does 1000 dps, your Ranger is doing 500... then haste the Brigand). Also, remember that a Tank's melee DPS isn't the major factor in them holding aggro... so don't think you have to haste the tank every time. Your goal is max group DPS, and they're usually not the best candiate for haste due to that.

3) Wiz / Conj / Necro buffs don't stack with both our group buffs and they have Conc slots to spare usually. Warlocks +power + resist line doesn't stack with ours... but they don't have a +int buff, so we're fine to use there if needed.

4) The Syngerism line (+proc buff) is great and all, but not as good as Haste looking at a group DPS perspective... though you should always use it on yourself if you're spec'd down the Agi AA line.

Note: Illusionist pet isn't really a "DPS" pet. It's value is more due to it's stuns, dazes, stifles, roots, and an extra body for mobs to attack. It tanks pretty well, as good as a Summoner Scout pet... even better if it's landed it's stuns / dazes / stifles. The last pet in the line even AoEs (aoe stuns and dmg). Don't make extra dmg the deciding factor on having your pet up, unless in a specialized group.

5) If you're in a all melee group DPS group, then I'd use haste and your int buff. If getting AoEs, then the power + resist buff won't hurt... but that buff will generally go unused.

6) If non warlock casters in group, I'd use pet and haste tank or any melee present. Warlock? Use your Int buff and pet.

7) If you're grouped with a Trouby and Wizard, use your pet always. Their combined proc buffs will add a nice boost to it's DPS. Much better than you can achieve spreading other buffs out.

Hope this helps...

Anyplace Latpow suggested different buffs if your only other caster in-group is a Warlock... edit that to be "Warlock or Conjuror". Conjurors don't have an Intelligence buff, either. Once you hit level 35 and get the first spell in the proc-buff line, your concentration slot usage will almost always be the same. Your non-raid group setup will be Tank+Healer+4 DPS, or Tank+2 Healers+3 DPS.If the former, put either a haste or a proc buff on everyone but the healer. If the latter, the 5th concentration slot (for the second healer) is up for grabs... INT buff if no other INT buffs in the group, proc or haste buff on the 2nd healer if they're in a semi-DPS role, both haste+proc on a paladin/SK tank, or maybe both on a bard...
