Soloing Nest and places like it, who is better Necro or Conj, at even gear. Given the same player ( yea yea i know )I was curious if Conj or Necro have the upper hand. I am most interested in taking out the hardest nastiest Named Mobs there are, and want the right caster for the job. Any thoughts would be great!

For taking out the toughest and nastiest mobs out there I would first forget about playing a Conjurer or Necromancer. For the toughest ones I think you would be more successful with a Coercer or Illusionist.

Back to your question about the Nest. My main character was a Conjurer that I built to 70 from scratch. I play solo more than 90% of the time. As a 70 Conjurer I could only kill the first 3 nameds in the Nest. The second named, the Taskmaster, was pretty tough usually resulting in a couple deaths before I managed to kill him. Now that I have betrayed to a Necromancer I regularly go in and clean out all the nameds in just over an hour. It depends really on how long it takes me to figure out which room the Kettleleader is in.

Now to let you know the gear setup. As a Conjuror I had some real decent gear. Mostly fabled and the rest all Legendary. I was fully Mastered with the exception of 1 or 2 spells. When I betrayed I lost some real nice items. So now my gear as a Necromancer is with only 1 or 2 Fabled pieces, some Legendary and the rest is Treasured. I only have about 30-35% of my spells at Master, the Majority are Adept 3 and I still have a couple that are Adept 1. Also the AA setups were both with 100 points available, both of them I specced for solo and to buff up my tank pet as much as possible. Even though My Necromancer has lesser quality gear so to say and not as many Masters I still manage to solo more than I could with a Conjurer.

Edited: to correct some minor misspelling

Thanks for replying, good info, especially from someone who saw both sides. I am suprised to hear coecr or illus as soloers, people seem to complain that they are very bad at soloing... maybe they are just whining? One question about illus vs coecr is the pet, illus get one, and coecr have to charm there's. Are the possible pets a coecr coould charm possibly better then the illus pet? i would think so if you have to through the trouble of charming one in the first place. Maybe you could help break some of the coecr - illus myths for me

I did roll a necro today, got her up to I think 16, and compared to my SK back at that level, i am a bit under whelmed at my DPS. I know my SK had her Infernal Blessing, and that is pretty amazing. And more then likely in a few levels I will get some Necro defining stuff, but at the moment, I have to keep telling myself it will get better

Main reason I rolled a Necro was I want to solo better then what my SK can do, which is pretty amazing already ( soloing named mobs in Fallen Gate since level 28 ) when not fighting Named, I have 2 to 4 trash mobs on me generally ( hex dolls and AOE + Vamp Adorn, + lambent embue on chest + infernal Pact = FUN ) Not saying it is easy, but it is awesome to do

There are plenty of Named in there I still can't do of course

I am hoping at the 28 to 30 mark that my Necro can do better then my SK in Fallen Gate would be very nice

For any necro to solo better, you will need tainted heals (manipulations line) from the EOF tree, makes soloing much easier. Allows the pet to be healed by 5 different spells for 18% of his hp's.

Also in the same tree, in the lifeburn line (rotting line), the 1st 3 abilities makes killing easier also as the time between dots is reduced and damage is increased.

you should really ask such questions on both sections since this is the necro forum im sure you can expect a bias necro answer... any how both classes can clear nest i konw conj that can do it and necros that can do it.. it's really about konwing how to solo your class not about the actual class .. . both summoners are strong solo.

In response to your Coercer and Illusionist inquiry. I have a 70 Coercer and a 62 Illusionist. The Coercer is definately better to have in certain areas. The Bonemire for example is Coercer heaven. There you have those corpse flame mobs that you can charm and they nuke for 3-9k with a master charm spell. Personally after getting my Illusionist up to lvl62 I would prefer to play Illusionist over Coercer. The T7 Illusionist pet has some stuns along with it's own root spells and it's damage spells are less powerful than the Illy itself but they cast fast like the Illusionist. So with an Illusionist it is real easy when you are basically a group of 2 root and ranged nuking mages.

So what AA spec have you used for the Nest and similar zones? I can get all named before the kettleleader but he has been hit or miss. I have the tainted heals and lifeburn lines on the EOF tab and even with sta/wis lines I wasc could not always kill the kettleleader and the main named there was no way. I always had to box in a mystic or fury for him as he was 3-4 shotting the master tank pet.My int is hovering around 700 so that has not been too much of an issue and I have mostly fabled gear so I am at a loss for where I have misconfigured the necro. As guilds come and go I have gone back to a lot of soloing so I would love to be the best tuned I can be so have a lot more soloing luck. I know in Kaladim i can handle 1-2 of the green heroic groups but grab a blue and there is no way to solo, forget about the blue named...Tips would be greatly appreciated.

When fighting the harder blue nameds you can't get into a hurry and try dps'ing down the mob as fast as possible. When fighting the Kettleleader my main source of damage is my tank pet, the dumbfire pets and Undead Tide. Most of the rest of the fight is spent casting manipulations to keept he pet alive with a Death Rot or Abate Life thrown in between if I got the time.

For X'haviz I start by killing his pet and the feign death. After I get up and get ready again target him and go down to the bottom floor to the hall where the Taskmaster stands. I pet pull X'haviz down to there and start wearing him down.

Quick question. Do you solo named with the pet in defensive or offensive stance? And have you tried both ways?

I solo them with my tank pet in defensive stance. I wouldn't even bother trying to do it with the pet in offensive stance. Don't think the fight would last very long.

I'm not the best conjuror, I'm sure I'm not half skilled as other ones around this boards, my gear is a mixture of treasured and legendary with a pair of fableds and no adornaments, I only have a few masters and most of my important spells are adept 3s and a few adept 1s, 80 AAs, but trust me, I can solo most of the nest without much problems.

I've played EQ2 for 1000+ days, and I've read this boards many times. It's the same everytime, if you post in necro section there will come the necro fans and will pwn conjurors in a few sentences, same will happen in the conjuror forum. Well, think it was over a year since the first conjuror cleaned all the nest, including final named, and I'm sure most of the necros around can do so.

If you want my opinion, personal opinion and I understand most won't agree with that. Necromancers are the sweet class, you have FD, rezz, Lifeburn, pets, lifetaps, you will find LOTS of fun playing a necro, but at the end, imo, Conjuror has a few more strength.

My guild has different necros, some high skilled, some averague ones, all of them with better gear and more masters than me, more AAs, more adornaments, only one can parse over me and the overall dps he has is not as big as the gear/spell advantage he has. Thats my point of view.

When they gave out the free 5 charge aa reset cards, i ventured away from my normal "raid dps" aa setup for my necro, and played around with some awsome farming aa. i did sta, wis on the summoner tree, and gravecalling, tainted heals on the necromancer tree. the sta, wis really beefs up your tank pet so he can take more hits, and having that tainted heals really owns, everytime you cast root, stun, fear, dispel magic, loathsome mark, or drawing of souls it heals your pet for 18% of his max hp. so if you can keep all your swarm pets on the mob, and keep spamming loathsome mark hitting the mob, and canceling it you can pretty much heal your pet for 3k every 2 seconds at a low power cost. so your pet is pretty much invisbile(aslong as loathsome mark doesnt get resisted ) here is a screenshot of me soloing the last guy in nest with only tainted heals, str and int for summoner tree(almost got my butt whooped, but he died)

Where do I pick up the card for 5 free AA respec's?

Cards - NFP arcane tower or SQ mage tower

Like most said here for soloing - necros have the advantage due to Tainted heals lines. The Tank pet is more of a Zerker build compaired to the Guardian Tank pet of Conjurors.

I think most have told you what AAs are needed by now, so no use rehitting that one. Other things that help however:

Procs for Power

Procs for Deagro (tank keeps agro easier and you can nuke more)
