I bought 2 identical systems yesterday, and I was able to get EQ2 to install and update after I ran the launcher as an administrator. My problem now is that when I try to log in a character, The game will not go past the "logging into zone server" screen. I am not getting any kind of error messages. I have tried logging in with firewall disabled, I have tried deleting all .ini files and doing another full system scan. I have all my .exe files in my EQ2 folder set to run in XP sp2 mode, and I have all my .exe files set to run as an administrator. Please find attached my system file info. I am including tracert, dxdiag, and MS info as the "read before posting" thread requests. Any help that can be offered would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much in advance! The spot where it is stopping sounds like a firewall issue. Is Nortan active on the PC? Be sure to disable it as well as any AV software running if the problem continues after the firewall is dropped. Some firewalls have no trouble with EQ2, but I had trouble with Nortan and I know others have as well.

Kjfett4,After reading your suggestion I actually uninstalled Norton totally from my system, rebooted, made sure windows firewall was diabled and I attempted to run the game again. I still hung at the "logging into zone server" screen. So I think at this point we can say it is not any antivirus software or firewall.

SO to recap..I have UAC disabled, and all .exe files running in XP SP2 mode.I tried deleting all my .ini files and running a full system scan to reinstall them.I removed Norton Internet Security from my system and disabled windows firewall to eliminate possible firewall / antivirus conflict.I unplugged system from home network and plugged it in directly to modem to eliminate possible network conflict.I went to the MIcrosoft site and found some updates, but after installing all of them no change.I ran the dxwebsetup to download any missing direct x files.I diabled the "aero" style windows, and I have no sidebar with gadgets running.Just for kicks I installed Vanguard to see if it would load up. I actually got in the game but crashed to desktop in less than 5 mins. Would the crash file from that help out?I was told by guildies that everytime I did log in and get stuck on the "logging into zone server screen I was actually sowing as logged in on the guild roster if that makes a difference. Any help would be greatly appreciated and please let me know if I need to provide any further information. Thanks!

I have the same problem/symptoms and have tried everything you wrote. Using Vista Ultimate and clean install of EQ2. Apart from having some trouble with corrupt files when updating from EU patch server which I fixed by deleting the files and getting them from US patch server instead everything worked ok. (Got the same corrupt files if trying to delete em and getting them again from EU patch server.)Have tried with F-Secure firewall/AV uninstalled as well and can see in my firewall when running it that it lets EQ2 through properly but that it stalls on connecting to zone server. Windows firewall disabled.From my firewall log it seems that my computer is trying to reach the EQ2 server with a ICMP call but get no reply back from the server and yes I have enabled so that ICMP calls can pass through.Did not see what server you play on. I am on EU server Splitpaw but not sure if thats an issue. Can play other online games with no problem!!!

OK I have this issue fixed now. What I had to do was disable a whole bunch of options that were on my network card that I didn't recognize. First from the properties tab on my network card settings, I uninstalled all protocalls except Internet Protocol version 4 and 6. I also unchecked the Internet Protocol version 6 box. The only services I have installed are QOS Packet Scheduler and file and printer sharing for MS networks. Client of course is client for Microsoft Networks. and other clients and services I uninstalled through the uninstall box in the local area connection properties window. Next I said ok to all this and I went into the configure option in the connection properties window. Under the advanced tab there should be an option similar to "Task offload". This option needs to be turned off. Once you have done all this Your network card will lose connectivity for a few seconds as it is resetting itself to the new options. I rebooted after this and I was able to log in to all my games now with no problems. I tested this by keeping a toon logged in overnight and sure enough he was there this morning tired from standing in the same spot all night.I hope this will be of some value to anyone else who has experienced a similar problem.
