View Full Version : Illusory forms - question for crafters

<p>I put a thread in gameplay discussion and after thinking about it I thought I would pose a question to this group as well -</p><p>The suggestion thread regards illusory forms - making them a scribed ability and adding some usefulness to them (IE - no aggro by the illusion class - combat breaks the illusion though. So be a gnoll and go hang out in Blackburrow if you like, scout it out, learn your way around, etc but start a fight and wholla, aggro). Make the items which grant illusions - the eyes and various items from collections and quests a scribed ability when you examine the item so you dont end up with boxes of these things in a house vault or bank.</p><p>Ok, so when I got to thinking about it I thought how awesome it would be for crafters that dont want to be adventurers to have these abilities - granted you still have to earn them but still useful - picture</p><p>Take on the gnoll illusion and go harvesting in Antonica. Granted, the illusion will only work with gnolls but would reduce a lot of your aggro in the area. And once something else attacks you the gnolls will if you are in aggro range but still could add another dimension to gameplay.</p><p>Of course, there are always potentials for anything to be abused, after all, cars are used in bank robberies but we havent outlawed their usage yet we simply punish the bank robbers. </p><p>So what are your thoughts? Yay, nay..affects balance, worth it, not? Personally at the very least I would like to see them scribed as an ability to free up storage. The rest would be icing on the cake IMO.</p>

Well, there's the Preserved Eyes from various bone collections that give race illusions, and many totems have illusions...The major issue is that illusions have no affect on faction. Back in EQ1 ages ago a racial illusion would also temporarily neutralize your faction with that race. Not Ally, but you wouldn't get ganked.I think it's a neat idea, but we'd have to convice the devs to allow illusions to do that, lol.

<p>Yes, that is precisely what I mean. Would be great if we could convince the devs to do so.</p><p>Be really nice if we had a way to upgrade our ability in usage of those preserved eyes so they no longer required bones to use them. Perhaps the slayer titles could be used to do so. Afterall, if you have killed 10,000 gnolls you should have observed them long enough to know how to pull off an illusory form in their presence.</p><p>[EDIT - of course not all illuaory forms have targetable mobs - High elf, gnome, etc but I would think races of same alignment wouldnt require that much fooling]</p>

This is an old old old argument and request concept. It dates back to the very first time someone put on an illusion in EQ2 and, thinking it would help with faction like in EQ1, promptly got smeared by walking into a group of that race.Unbalancing? In my opinion, not really. It would add more to "illusions" and make them a lot more fun. However, would you make a "freeport race" illusion non-agro in Freeport and a "Qeynos race" illusion non-agro in Qeynos? but what about those who've betrayed? What about the neutral races (human, gnome, half-elf, kerra, barbarian, etc)? What about the Guise of the Deceiver (HQ reward) which is a dark elf (and indicates in the lore quest it does help alter faction reactions), should there be a wood or high elf version for Freeport classes/races, what about betrayers and/or neutrals/exiles? So how about making it only for "monster" races? but some of the monster races are friendly to one side but not the other (i.e. the brownies of L'fay aren't agro to Qeynos/Kelethin citizens.. or I was I jsut too high level on my Qeynosian to see the agro?) and some monster races have faction that can or cannot be changed. Plus why only have it affect for the non-player race mobs?I think the devs just abandoned the whole idea of faction changes with illusions just to make it less complex in the long run or even because they ran into complications with it when they attempted to add it to their own internal servers. As an aside, ironically the two enchanter classes and especially the class called "illusionist" has far fewer illusions to cast as part of the class than anyone of any class can pick up from quests.

If they required the player receiving the Illusion to be grouped with the Enchanter and short duration (15 mins) and they were only single target and had specific race/faction alignments; that would help some of the balance issues.</p><p>They've already done a faction adjusting illusion; it was during that Quelious Deity Quest in DFC. You got an option for Mask of the Deathfist and it would adjust your faction @ +30,000. Of course if you were maxed neg they still attacked with the 20,000 neg faction but if the character in question had never fought there, it would work fine. </p><p>As a whole, though, Harvesting and potiental Argo just kinda goes hand in hand. It's our little bit of risk vs reward left. Take that out and we really do seriously have a walk in the park crafting. And, don't say the Crafter can just buy from the broker. That has it's own risk vs reward. 2cp vs 2g for roots. (or as I say in my mind .. "rootes"<img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />. </p><p>I'm all for more fun forms, that are available to crafters, though. And, I still want my "Crystalized Eye" Collection Quest that requires all the bloody Eyes and gives back a "Crystalized Eye" that will summon the illusion form of whatever bone you feed it. (1st bone you have in your inventory). </p>

And, the mask in the Hoo'lah quest gives agro range reduction with its illusion. But those are the only two I know of. I wish the would add faction to the enchanter ones but only while grouped (like the swashie smuggle). The coercer has troll and ratonga that I know of (that's all unless others were higher level than my arasai when I went to get them) and I'm not sure which the illusionists get. But even if a coercer could only 'smuggle' into Freeport/Neriak (and the Sarnak place after RoK), it would be good.

Sorry for 2 posts but can't do edit while posting from Treo and I had another thought. Like the Hoo'lah mask in the quest, for monster illusions, it would be real cool if the were agro radius reducers. It would lower risk but not remove it completely.

This was the reason for me asking if we could get these as a scribed ability once we have the eye - storage space reduction. </p>
