In my never ending quest for research on raiding AA builds, I was cruising through EQII Players checking out some of the rogues in the top raiding guilds on my server. More specifically, their achievement builds.

One thing that I saw very predominantly was that most of them were STR/WIS, but, with the exception of one of them, they still had 2 weapons equiped. I know that EQII Players isn't up to the minute updated, but I find it hard to believe that all of those that were STR/WIS with 2 weapons, liked to walk around with 2 weapons when not raiding and then just drop one of them at raid start time.

Is there really any benefit to going STR/WIS and DW? I would imagine that would completely negate the reason for even taking the WIS line.

In addition while I'm on this topic, I decided for giggles to use one charge of my respec card and compare my stats between the STR/AGI build I've been using to the STR/WIS build. Same gear, just one line change (from AGI to WIS) and dropping the off hand weapon. What I noticed is that about everything went DOWN. Str, Sta, Agi, Health, Power and Attack. The only two things to go up were Wis and Defense. Now how does the WIS line pull ahead with all those things going down? What really baffled me was the lower attack. And it was by a significant amount. I'm assuming the loss of that second weapon was the reason, but why would your ability to hit a mob go down by removing an off hand weapon?

Thanks for your time!

Laer

I'm a new Swashy still trying to decide on a leveling build, but even so, I have to ask.

Did the offhand weapon have stats on it? If it did, it may account for the change.

Just a noobs guess ......

It's got to be that the item slots are more up to date than the AA info on eq2players.

as for why they are using two weapons i have no clue, but ive noticed that the double attack from wis line increases the damage from it, BUT two weapons would increase your stats therefor increasing everything else, but the attack would come from the 2nd weapon, depending on the skill with the weapon and what not. and with the double hits you also have a better chance to proc your weapons, hence meaning more dps again, but dual wielding i am trying now and seeing if my parses are close to what they where with the spec of str/wis to str/agi

The advantage of the Wis line is that you can get up to a 68% chance to double-attack on any melee attack. That, and the final ability adds something like 15.7 to your offense and defense. As for what's better.... well I can only tell you my experience. I'm str/wis, have been for some time. I usually pull about 1.4k-1.8k in Deathtoll, depending on whether or not I'm in a group w/ lots of melee buffs. But when I switched to str/agi to try it out, I was having trouble pulling 1k. So for my playstyle, and in my experience, the only benefit of dual-wielding, is the added stats from having a 2nd weapon. As far as I can see, the Wis line still is the way to go for overall performance.
