Hey everyone. As the title says i m quitting. This is not because i am not getting what i want (because i think EQ2 is actually a pretty god game) but because my launch pad will not allow me to download any updates (I ve been away a month and a half) and every time it starts up, the updates start and then it gets to a file and either continously loops on that file or cancels the download. WHen i asked SOE for help and said i use a router and i don t have a modem (original one is with someone else) and can t buy one they had this to say without giving me any other help (other than how to configure the fire wall) :

"do apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. Sony Online Entertainment does not support the use of firewalls and proxies, including cable/DSL NAT routers, campus and office networks, or any type of Internet connection sharing services. However, in an effort to assist you in configuring your systems on your own, we would like to provide the following information which may help you in setting up your firewall to work with EverQuest II."

Its not my panda firewall. EQ2 and all SOE files are set to inbound and out bound traffic, i ve uninstalled EQ2 5 times and finally i ve restarted adn defragged about 3 times. Anyway if anyone has had the said problem and knows how to fix it could you please let me know please as i love EQ2 and don't want to quit. (i will not cancel subscription for another month to see if things are fixed)

In the meantime i ll be on SWg if anyone needs me lol =) if EQ2 doesn t work after next month i ll get vanguard or planet side. Please tell me if these are any good lol!

Thanks

Have you tried clicking on the complete full scan button? Make sure you are disabling all of your firewalls while it is downloading. Once it is done downloading, you should be able to turn it back on for when you play.

If so, then you need to right-click your EQ2 icon and select "run as an administrator" or the launchpad will cancel the download/get stuck as you mentioned above.

Good luck.

Try canceling the download, then go into the options or something and click on full scan. I'm at work, so I can't check atm

My router is configured fine. I know that it is something to do with my pc (i think it may be a corrupt file) that is preventing the download as if it were SOEs problem then more people would be complaining about the ProphetsDay.mp3 file. I disabled my anti virus to see would anything happen again and infact it did start to download but now it has gone back to the original problem that it just loops continously at the file ProphetsDay.mp3. This was the original problem then it started to automatically cancel the download when it reached another file. That problem has stopped.

P.S. I did a full file scan but afterwards it was still stuck on the said file. :'( i want EQ2 to work cuz i love playing it and i don't want to leave. I was only a level 13 after deleting my 2 other evil characters and converting to good :'(

after reviewing the situation on several boards i have come to the conclusion that it is not just me having these problems. I will not go as far as to say that i will quit the game if other people are having this problem as SOE will probably come out with a way to fix it (or other players). Help and advise would still be nice though lol =)

I had the same problem, the launcher kept downloading some files over and over again. Full scan didnt solve it deleting the files that were causing the loop didnt do anything it downloaded them again and again. I got the game working again by putting it on another region so from europe to america it downloaded the nececery files and i switched it back to europe again after that it worked perfectly.

File: Char_mounts.vpk

well i run the EU regoin and( this is a tip for Cerberes, you can switch region in the window where you have to accept the terms to play) and switch to US and launcher starts lownloading.

one more thing to try before you try and switch regions, is this.

go into your EQ2 directory, and then do a file search in that directory specifically looking for that offending file. once you have found it, delete it completely, and let the patcher run again. it should download the full file, instead of continually trying to download an incompatible patch (delta) file that contains only the code from between when your current file was last updated, and the current code on the servers now.

the deltapatch files were developed to shorten the dowload time for small and even larger updates for those that continually patch up. the delta files only contain the code that makes the file on the server different from the one on your computer, and patches that code into the file. if this patching process gets corrupted in any stage of the patch process on that file, then this effect can result.

these files that always make the patcher loop are the live event mp3 files under the music - zones directory bt every time i delete them and run the patch it is always one of those that causes the problem, never any other file, any site that i can externally download this specific file from or something, better yet can someone email me that file to see if it works??

you do not need ot delete ALL of those MP3 files, only the one that keeps "looping". after you delete that one file, it should download it correctly. if it does the same thing after that with another file, that means that there is more than one of those files that are either corrupt on your system, or your patches are being corrupted when downloading them.

So the Euro patch servers contain more bugged/corrupt files. Perhaps time for someone at SOE to take a look at this...

The workaround is to delete the file(s) in question and connect to US region to get the files, since those seems to be unaffected.
