Hey guys n gals,

Kk, so I brought a guy over to EQ 2, he bought his EoF expansion retail yesterday and installed EQ2, ever since last evening he's been patching. Today at around 5PM EST. it told him he had, 05:30:00 left. Now , at 6:30 PM est, its telling him 10:75:30 left. I thought it was a patcher lock-up where the patcher got stuck on a file. SO i had him cancel and then click Update button. NOW it tells him 500 hours left! He is on the phone with me going, [Removed for Content]!?!?!?! pardon my language. But we've been trying hard to get him on and now that we finally are able to , he is unable to because of a patcher issue??

His System is: Dell

Processor 3.22ghz, and 3.0ghz

RAM: 512mb

Graphics Card:ATI RADEON x1200 128mb

Help!!

Initial patches after you've just installed the game can be VERY long... in the 12 hour range. The time estimates given by the patcher should not be believed, as they are pretty inaccurate. Just let it keep plugging away, and hopefully he'll be able to play by this weekend... maybe November at the latest.

I see a couple of problems here. First is that this post is in the wrong forum. Belongs in Technical forum, not Game Play. The other(s) are that, with 512 MB RAM and a 128 MB video card he's going to be borderline at best to play EQII. Both are at the very bottom of the list of desirable system configurations.

I understand that this is the wrong forum for tech problems, but I would prefer to have the help of people who WILL Help instead of those hired to handle such things and look at my problem and consider it not important and decide to wait until they feel like helping me. while in the process, my co-worker's free month is dwindling. I know that was my worry to, referring to his system. I told him he would need another gb of ram at least. and to find a graphics card online. Found my wife a geforce 7600GS 512mb card, for 134.00 on Pricegrabber.

Is this guy running on broadband or a dial up? If he is running on a dialup, then yeah, the time frame is not nearly as long as he is seeing, but still very long. If he is running on broadband, he needs to stop the DL, restart the PC and maybe even reset the modem/router and start it up again. He won't lose what he already got installed, it'll run a quick check to see where it stopped and then pick right back up again...hopefully faster.

Best way to install? Copy your EQ2 folder on a portable hard drive, walk the drive over to the other computer, copy folder to new machine, make a new shortcut on the desktop, and then double-click new shortcut.

Depending on your USB ports maybe 30 mins to install.

He is running on DSL, we have canceled rebooted and retried his download, started with 500 hours left, then tonight at 8PM EST he had 2 hours left, so we can hope he will get to experience EverQuest 2 Tomorrow afternoon. He is from WoW so I'm hoping he enjoys more heh. Thank you all for your help.

DSL and he is still downloading? Something is wrong. Have him run this test and see what he gets. http://myspeed.visualware.com/index.html It's just a test for upload and download speeds in a visual format that is easy to understand.

Burning to a few DVD's and copying from those DVD's to the hard drive will flag those files as being "read-only". Then a poor unsuspecting soul will wonder why they are having pather issue's (once again) because they didn't realize the entire EQII directory structure is now set to read-only.

Very bad suggestion!
