Hello, sorry to ask here again, but it seems a little bit more appropriate here. Question is: What tradeskill arts do I have to use for recipes using "Magic Affinity" as technique? I am not able to complete the crafting process due to this and hence the corresponding quest "Entering the Veil"

Magic Affinity is a skill that was used prior to LU#13.

This is back when an equipable item gave you a required skill to equip and use it, and everything in the game was governed by these skills.

From memory, Magic Affinity was the skill used by every class to govern at what level they were able to equip jewelery type items. It increased automatically with your level, with each player getting 1 point in it every 20% of an adventure level.

I would assume that the game still uses this skill internally, but as players, we never see it any more. This may explain the reason you are getting the error message you are getting, although I have no idea why it would be tied to a crafting combine.

Entering the Veil is an EoF quest in Loping Planes... Strange that a pre LU13 skill is used in a combine for EoF. Does this means I have just to wait for a lucky rng and hope for the combine to survive the 4th bar?

You could try using the scribe effects, I'm pretty sure I noticed one of them last night when I did my own Veil Mask, by the time I found it in the tradeskill book the Mask was complete though so I was pretty lucky.

We were a bunch who did quests in LP, including this one. None had problems at all - I think its one of the majority of quest combines that finishes itself.

Did you actually fail it?

nod I failed two times with it. As it took some time due to lacking dps to get the corpse husks, it is rather annoying. I have notice the scribing icons, too. However the ones in my spell book are for technique "Scribing" and thus not working.

This quest was bugged until very recently for some people. I did it some months ago and didn't experience that problem. It had to do with you making a new lore mask using a lore mask already in your inventory.... and you getting a message that you can't have two of the same lore item, as the new mask and the "old" mask apparantly counted as the same item.

Perhaps they broke it when they fixed that issue?

I feel for you

Not knowing if its bugged or intended, not sure if you should /bug it and petition either.

I seem to recall it using one of the alternate skills (geomancy or some such). Everyone has those skills.

A relatively fast way to figure out which skill is being used is to sort your tradeskill arts by type and flip through the pages while you are doing the combine to see which ones are the ones that are lite up rather than darkened.

I am pretty sure that this is not working as Geomany is for technique, well, "Geomancy", as the scribing skills are for technique "scribing" etc. Being lvl 9 only you can guess that my book is not very much filled and I have tried every single button in there just to get the message "this recipe does not use binding/fletching/scribing/geomancy".Maybe it is easier for the folks who have a higher level crafter, where the recipe is dark gray or I was just having pretty bad luck in a row. I will try it once more the next days and bug it if it is still not working. Question would still be, why are recipes brought newly into the game which are using pre LU13 skills which have been removed long long ago? Thanks for the help

Geomancy (and its cousins that used to be the alt arts) were left in just for quests and HQ's. I'll practically guarantee it's one of those. However, I haven't done it myself.

I have done it on two characters and can't recall at all which of the alternates it uses. But it does use them. The only advice I can give.. try sorting your tradeskill tab in the knowledge book on category. Then start the recipe and flip through the book to see which ones are lit up.

It used to be the 'skill' that symbols and various jewelry required for you to be able to equip it a very long time ago in the game(unless I'm getting things really confused, which is possible).

I really can't recall which of the alternate skills was used, it's been like 7-8 months since I did the quest, but it was either geocraft, thaumaturgy or the other one (binding I think it's called). I do know that if it is not bugged, you can sort your book like I said in the earlier post and look for the icons that are brightened once you've started the combine. If all of them are darkened, then it is entirely possible that when the fixed the 'lore' bug they broke something else.

Or perhaps they intend to combine all the alternate ones into 1 skill and accidently pushed something forward that wasn't supposed to go, and broke it.

If you sort your book and can still use none while you are doing the combine, then I'd certainly bug it in game with details.

These (and others like rapier skill, chain armor skill, buckler skill, etc) were auto leveled up like Poisoning Skill for predators and rogues are now.Looking at the recipe in game, it does use the Magic Affinity skill for its check, so I would guess that means it simply requires level 5 adventurer to scribe, without being able to use counters since there are no Magic Affinity counters in existence. When I did it, I got an auto pristine on my first attempt, so as far as difficulty its not horrible. These skills that fueled equip rules still exist, but were removed from the display to clean it up. All it had done was list that you could use rapiers, and cloth and leather and chain etc, which was redundant after the list of usable classes was added to item displays, instead of the requirement that you have 200 skill in chain armor to equip.EDIT: I don't have any characters that are less than level 5 crafter, and capable of doing a t7 quest, so I can't confirm thats the behavior of the recipe ... just that is my guess as to how it works based on looking at it in my recipe book.

Ok, final words from my side as the original problem holder I have tried it today again (after dinging lvl 10 crafter just to be on the safe side). The bad news first: there are still events during the process to create the mask, which cannot be countered. I have literally tried clicking every ts art I have. Good news is: Finished the stupid thing without problems It is still weird to me, but oh well, this is just some minor issue at least. Seems that I just had bad luck with the rngThanks to all the folks and the great ts community giving good advice and trying to help. /bow
