If this is not checked then all the updates come down before you log into the game. The are not "in bed with microsoft", it is your choice on how to update the application, if you choose not to select that option, then launchpad will not utilize it.

You can disable it at any time, be aware that there are other applications on the market that utilize that particular microsoft service, things like Windows/Microsoft Update, most AV online update applications, basicly anything that has the ability to update automaticly. Most, if not all legitimate applications that use this ability verify that you want to allow the process to occur or deny it. Launchpad does if you look in the options section, you have to agree to let it do it, windows/microsoft update has the same request for verification, same with the AV applications. you are better off accessing the settings for this service via the services.msc control panel app

Contrary to popular belief, MS really is not interested in your first born and the meager change in your bank account means nothing to them. Don't flatter yourself. lol Anyway, Have you searched for and read either of those two .txt files that are listed? The error says both of them can help explain the problem you are having.

hmm...zero hits on Google as well. Try setting your folder options to show hidden folders and then go to the file's location and see if you spot them. ex. C:Users sub-folder - Ben sub-folder - AppData sub-folder - Local sub-folder - Temp file - WERE8A.tmp.version.txt

Well I got a temp fix atm. I turned back on the UAC and for some odd reason the patcher patches but crashes when I hit play but I can access the game by going directly to the everquest2.exe and avoid the patch. Not a real fix but one that allows me to log in and let my guild know that the main tank for raids hasnt vanished lol.

You can turn BITS off, but thats only for LU and optional content (like voice pack or ambient stuff).

If you purchase digital download of expansions, you will get it via BITS, regardless of that setting... so I'm not so sure where the lines for that setting are drawn.
