For my birthday a couple weeks ago, the family gave me a second computer capable of running EQ2 (sweet!) so now I have two accounts and I'm learning to two-box. I'm using a program called Multiplicity, which allows me to control both computers (one desktop and one laptop) with one keyboard and mouse. The setup is working beautifully, except for one problem. Sometimes one of the characters will start spinning around or running uncontrollably. If I switch the cursor over to the other monitor, the out-of-control character will stop, and sometimes when I switch back the problem is gone, but not always. Sometimes it can be very stubborn, and it's hard to regain control of the character. I see from searching the forums that quite a few people apparently are using Multiplicity or a similar program, but I don't see any mention of this problem specifically. Has anyone else seen this? Did you figure out what was causing it?

I also use multiplicity to help out my multi boxing habit. The problem occurs if you are still holding down a movement key when you slide the mouse over to the other desktop. The first dekstop at that point locks onto that last command and wont let go until you bring the mouse back. I don't know if there is anyway to prevent this from happening, honestly I havent looked into it. I have just gotten used to making sure I stop all movement before trying to get control of another PC at this point. It's usually nothing more than an inconvenience if you where in the process of turning as you have described the constant spinning. However if you where moving forward you can very easily lead your little team over a cliff by accident (which i have done on more than one occasion )

I can't believe they haven't fixed that problem yet. I'd imagine multiplicity would make a lot of money from people who two-box video games but they can't fix this issue? It doesn't just happen in eq2, it happens in every other mmorpg i've played with it, So I stopped using it and went to using to keyboards...
Once you understand what is happening it is pretty easy to fix the problem.

When you press and release a key the game gets two signals a key down message and a Key up message. The problem occurs when you scroll the mouse off the screen on to the other display with a key pressed. Now when you release the key, the key up message goes to the other computer. And the first computer still thinks you are pressing the key.

So to prevent the problem don't scroll off the display while pressing a key. If cause the problem you can fix it by simply scrolling back and pressing the key agin. Ie if your constantly turning left press the key to turn left. When you do the game will get a key up message and stops.

I use Multiplicity all the time. Once you get over this little quirk it works great.

GREAT!! Thanks so much for the info. Now that I know what's up, I'll just work around it (although a fix would be nice.) Other than this problem, I'm very happy with Multiplicity.
I tried using Multiplicity but had to stop for this reason. Now, I just focus on my main toon while the second stays on auto-follow. Since my second computer is a laptop, I just hotkey everything. Two-boxing is much easier when the second boxed toon is set up for only 10 spells/abilities that you can access by mashing the number keys.

You can go in the Advanced Seamless Setup and change it so you have to have the shift key pressed also to allow the switching to take place.

Another way is that you can Hotkey your desktops which is alot quicker than moving your cursor to the edge of the screen.
