I know what a mentor is in the traditional sense but what does it mean in eq 2?

Sorry about all the questions, I did do a search and a come of with a thread where someone seemed to be talking about mentoring characters on his own account? (Maybe ive got the wrong end of the stick! )

Mentoring brings your class level (stats and gear are also reduced accordingly) to the person being mentored. This is done in order to get in most cases updates or experience from mobs or quests that have long greyed out for them.

It's really just a method to allow characters of different levels to be able to group.

You can't mentor people above your level, they will need to mentor down to you.

When mentored, spells and gear are scaled down to that level, though are still more powerful than a character of that level.

For each person in a group mentoring you, you will get an experience bonus. My guild will often use mentoring to green up a mob (usually epic) so we can get loot and status for killing them. Lots of people will use mentoring to finish up old grey quests so they can get AA experience for finishing them

Frankly, the EQ2 mentoring system is awesome.

Yes indeed it seems that way, I especially like what you folks said about quests and lower lvl epic mobs.

Thanks again

Zephal

Wow, thanks for answering...this really makes this game *that* much more awesome! It's a true incentive to play with lower level people and still not have to feel like you're baby-ing them through areas.

hehe no problem, yeah I like to get self sufficient initially and then Im happy to learn of more experienced players. I realise many of you have played for years and who better to get advice off. The first 16 lvls I have practiced lots of stuff and now have a reasnable handle on crafting thanks to all the help. Plus I hate people that beg for money so thats why I figure out how to make my own as well as the fact if people just get money handed to them it takes away a big part of the enjoyment/challenge of the game. I think I can see where you are comming from in regards to feeling like your baby sitting, Ive actually knocked back some groups that were just wanting to grind up, I realise there will be a point in the game where I will want to do that but I want to see the game not fly through it and at the end be like wow no way what now?

When I do group at the higher lvls I hope it works so that all mages get the mage gear, tanks get all the tank gear so that its fair , its just some of the groups ive been in people are rolling for everything. Im not really that worried about it at this point in the game but it would be nice to work on a system where people didnt roll for stuff they cant use, unless it was no use to anyone in the group if you get what Im saying. This is a really minor gripe at this point though. (The game is still awsome <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" width="15" height="15" /> )

End game Im looking to get into a guild that hopefully works on dkp for raids then Im happy missing out on stuff while I save DKP. My friends were in a wow guild that worked on dkp and it was such a fair system.
