Same problem as all the others really. The launcher keeps cancelling the patch downloads. I only just came back after a 9 month break too!!! And yes, I've read all the other posts about possible solutions. I'm on Windows XP so the Vista fixes obviously won't work. I've tried disabling both my firewall (the XP SP2 one) and my anti-virus. Still no joy. What the hell is causing this? My computer was freshly formatted over the weekend and everything else that needs internet access works fine. I haven't seen any up to date posts on this so I'm wondering if any solution has been found yet?

The cable/dsl modem or the router you purchased may has Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) turned on and maybe interpreting the "patcher" packet flooding as being Denial of Service Attacks.

You could also perform some trace routes to the SoE servers to see if packets are being dropped from an ISP upstream router.

Connectivity issue's are usually associated with customer's CPE (Customer Premise Equipent - Routers/Modems) or ISP issue's along the pathway.

Good luck

I think it's sorted now. I scoured the forums and found some posts on deleting everything in the Packs folder (all those .vpk files). There's some issue with one of the Char_mount.vpk files (or something with Char_mount anyway) updating. The file would update then promptly cancel the patching once it's done. Now I have the joy of downloading 6GBs of .vpk files.
