View Full Version : Disappointing drop rate on booster packs/starter decks

What do you all think of the drop rates for these items from what you have seen? I heard a rumor that it was about 1 in 300 kills. Well, shortly after LoN went live our guild decided to start Bloodlines. The first night we get a booster pack after about the 200th/250th kill. We were quite happy considering this was our first night of many to conquer all these quests and by quest 3 or 4 of 11 we had a booster. So, the fighting goes on and not a single one dropped after that. The entire quest series was blue/green so we did a lot of killing, and completed the good & evil quests simultaneously so more often then not the instance was cleared by us, as well as doing all the side quests.Found this to be a little disappointing when we were done that only 1 booster pack dropped after maybe what, 1000 or so kills?Granted, I have been living in these zones since LoN went live so cant compare to other zones/tiers. What have you all seen is the outlook as grim?*hangs head*

Two nights ago, a guildie with a new alt got one at something like level 4 on the Island. Half the T7 guys were drooling.

I've been killing stuff hand over fist and haven't seen one drop yet. Quite frankly from the number on the broker, the drop rate is plenty. Especially Sony could have very easily decided to make them storebought only.

I keep forgetting to check the broker, last time I looked was like a day or two after it went live and there were maybe 8 booster packs, for 13p/each. I'll have to check that tonight. For those that have looted a booster, care to share where? Zone OccuranceTombs of Night Rare

If they were store bought only , fine but the proposal was you could actually get enough cards to play from what you could find in game, at the rate of a pack every few months that simply isnt true.

I don't mind them being somewhat rare but making them drop rarer than master chests is alittle stupid.

The way they set it up makes it good for those botters that slaughter mobs by the thousands but really screws the people that would like to try the game but just don't have any cards besides the starter deck they gave us.

I used to be into Magic the gathering and spent a ton of money for cards but they had the potiental to increase in value. my level 8 coercer, while doing the Neriak quests, got a booster pack. Quite lucky actually, because I just started on a new server and it immediately sold for quite a nice sum of platinum, and I even undercut the lowest one by 5pp. Gave her money to start her tradeskilling much faster!

1 in 300 kills does not GUARANTEE 1 out of every 300 kills. It just means that there is a chance that one out of every 300 mobs might drop it. It doesnt' say which 300 mobs in the entire game or anything like that.

I've gotten one pack since LoN went live. I'm ok with that.

The LoN cards weren't designed to heavily influence gameplay. They don't have any stats. You can't craft anything from them. Having a LoN pack in your inventory (since you can't equip it) doesn't influence your effectiveness in the game. You can't put it up in your house and reduce the status cost. If any of those were true, I'd have to question the rarity.

However, as it stands, once you loot one, you have pretty much 3 choices. You can redeem it (or delete it), taking it out of the game. You can trade/give/sell it to someone else who is presumably going to redeem it and take it out of the game, or you can hold onto it.

Given that, it's rarity does not in any way drastically change gameplay. Unlike Masters and rare Harvests which DO influence gameplay, it doesn't hurt or help the game in any way.

Last night was newbie night in my guild. That's when we do something with alts and low level mains to help them out with exp etc.. I happened to be mentored down with my warden cause they needed a healer and I actually needed the quests they were doing. We were in Bloodlines and we had pretty much cleared about half the instance for the quest and a booster pack dropped. We were all excited.

I am not necessarily disappointed in the drop rate tbh. I think they should be rare. Honestly, I'd rather pay 3$ RL money to buy a booster pack than to spend 10 plat in game. LoN is a separate game from EQ2. It's really just a bonus that the packs drop in game. Anyway, that's how I feel about it.

They are getting a large amount of exposure to an audience that normally would not know or care about a CCG. They get people to try it by packaging it into the EQ1 and EQ2 client and giving free starters. They then lure even more in with the in game boosters and loot items. Once these people get hooked they figure out they cannot really play against the hardcore players unless they find/buy more boosters. It is in Sony's best interest to keep the dropped booster packs rare enough that they do not reduce the value of the booster packs in the eyes of paying customers of LoN, but common enough to tempt people who normally would not try the game into it.

Just glancing at my kill statistics I have slaughtered 2000 or so mobs since LoN went live (I would wager 25% of them were grey kills from quests so more like 1500) and I have not seen one pack drop. *shrugs* Lived without them before they were available, can live without them after.

I was farming Kaladim the day after LON went live, and grabbed two within an hour from the Kobolds there at the entrance. Since then, after doing a million instances, clearing every kos/eof raid instance, and farming on the weekends to pay for my repair bills I've not seen a single booster drop, nor do i know anyone in guild or on my friends list that has seen a single one. We've killed thousands of mobs, and not a single drop. Working as intended ...

I have a 26 Bruiser I use for farming (for transmutables). Since LoN went live, I've gotten well over a dozen Exquisite chests and at least thirty Ornate chests from zones like Wailing Caves, Blackburrow, Fallen Gate, and Stormhold. And zero booster packs for LoN.

Hurray I found a booster deck. But...it wasn't from any mobs that I've been killing for the past two weeks. While questing at LP last night, I came across a small chest sitting in the middle of the wilderness. I went over, opened it and there was the booster deck. Sheesh all those weeks of killing mobs and this is how I find a booster. I'm not even sure if I should open it or try to sell it.

Well, I played all weekend long. Mostly mentored down to help the wife level. Killed many hundreds of mobs maybe thousands not sure. . . Many many chests and not a single card. Some increased drop rate. I have seen 2 pack drop since LoN went live, but not a single one all weekend.

Nada here. I was at least hoping to lose a roll on one this weekend with the "increased drop rate". Guess they doubled the drop rate from 0 to... 0.

So, what's the big deal with these booster packs? Heard you get wargs...but at same speed as horses.

...is it only for fluff stuff? So you're telling me they haven found a way to overbore the game through 2 years of no new fluff effects through progression, then were able to lear our poor fluff-starving selves into a business-appropriate way of "wasting your life away...furthermore" with those LoN cards?

Wow. Meh.

the Loot cards for EQ2 can be the following:Warg mounts (one caster friendly, one melee friendly) with distinct graphics. basically a grahic only seen in Neriak or from the Mayong drop.Carpet mounts again, one melee one caster...with distinct graphics not seen elsewhere.mounts run at 50%, have buffs according to which one you got. one buffs for melee, one for caster types. In game recipes for a card case that reduces status cost. I think there's two of these, one that uses a rare, one that doesn't.the cases themselves.at least I think 3 status reducing painting with distinct looks.gloves that add a fire particle effect to hands, and a pair that gives a lightning effect.several illusions. ice skeleton, a box, and I think a couple others.cloaks with distinct graphics, most having usefull effects. Cloak of flowing water, for example, has featherfall (reduce falling speed) and water breathing with a blue cloak graphic similar to the cloak of flame. I think they all have feather fall, and then another effect. there's at least 3 of these cloaks, each with a distinct graphic.50% Xp increase potion50% AA xp increase potion50% TS xp increase potion50% to AA/Xp/Ts xp potion.and these are the ones I'm pretty sure about. there maybe more/others. they are potentially in any booster pack, but quite rare. so obviously, the more booster packs you get, the better the odds of you getting a redeemable loot card.
