In a thread last week the conversation came up concerning a way to earn faction with city guilds and majdul faction houses without having to do adventure writs.

In LU38 a new Mastercraft quest was added which involves harvesting in a certain zone (tier appropriate for the quest). Thanks for the new quest and Advanced recipes for Provisioner Domino.

This new quest got me to thinking about the thread from last week and while I think the suggestion I am about to make involves quite a bit of work, it could be interesting.

Here we go -

Each city guild gets a new NPC writ giver for artisans (much like the new quest giver in the Ironforge Exchange). For each faction, a writs (repeatable) or multiple choice of writs would be offered, based on your tradeskill level. These writs would offer status points (in turn guild status points) and city guild faction points. They would not require any adventuring skills other than the ability to travel to a zone and know where to harvest, etc.

Each writ would require harvesting of a particular zone based on the tier of tradeskilling. The zones could be random or set. If using miltiple writs with varying levels of reward and status they could be something like this:

Tier 3 Artisan: Harvest x items from Thundering Steppes (IMO - 50 was too few, especially for a writ style system but will leave this to Domino to plug in X)

Tier 3 Difficult Artisan: Harvest x items from Thundering Steppes within y minutes and return to NPC

Tier 3 Master Artisan: Harvest appropriate number and type of items to make the following recipe (random based on tradeskill class) AND craft the item within X minutes.

With regards to MajDul - as this zone only contains recipes for 50-60, the problem becomes building faction before 50 and after 60. While contemplating this issue I began to wonder if it would be possible to cross check adventure level and tradeskill level when asking for writs. If so, then perhaps MajDul could work this way -

Only available to tradeskillers once you reach level 50+ as tradeskiller from a Court NPC outside of the Court house for which you seek faction (Coin, Blade, Truth). Moving through the city would be another challenge but one that can be met.

Once available (50+ tradeskiller) you could continue to do crafting writs as long as your adventure level was below 60 but once your adventure level reached 60 you would no longer be eligible for tradeskill writs as your adventure level would trivialize the content and you would have other avenues in adventuring that already existed to build faction in MajDul.

For the 60+ writs the same methods should apply. Certain zones are currently heavily farmed by level 70 toons as the zones grey for harvesting T7 materials. T7 writs should cross check adventure level. If all T7 zones would be con to you, then one set of writs would be available BUT if your adventure level trivialzes the zone you must take writs for which your adventure level does not trivialize the content. IE - a level 64 character could be asked to root in Tenebrous Tangle but a level 70 might be asked to harvest them from Isle of Desolation.

As we have been able to determine it is possible (although very time consuming) to skill a level 1 adventuring toon to 70 in tradeskilling and have them harvest their own materials such writs are viable to do on tradeskill alone.

Thoughts, comments?

In each of the cities, except Maj'dul, there are adventure related factions (only one for Neriak) and a tradeskill related faction. The factions are roughly equivalent with their own set of rewards. The adventure factions in those cities do not offer items which are tradeskill related and the tradeskill factions do not offer items related to adventuring. This is how it should be. You shouldn't get adventure faction for tradeskilling because there is an equivalent tradeskill faction in the same location. Nor should you get tradeskill faction for adventuring because there are adventure factions in that location, too.Maj'dul has only adventure related factions but offers no trade crafting related items (recipes) but only for completing adventure related quests or obtaining adventure-related items. There is NO tradeskill faction nor is their any method to obtain the tradeskill related items through any crafting related task. Unless a low adventure level character obtains items -from- a relatively high leveled adventurer, a low level adventurer has no one to obtain the crafting-related faction rewards. I was against it when DoF released and never once changed my opinion on it.This IS different that advanced recipe drops and Emerald Halls/Unrest recipe drops because those are available only by adventuring. You cannot obtain any of those recipes by faction.
