View Full Version : Soloing the Nest

Just to reflect an interesting thread in Warlock forum...

I soloed it many times without any problems up to X'Haviz (took me around 50 mins because I am too lazy). The only hard named in my opinion is Councillor, but X'Haviz is real pain. Still I drop him down to like 20% before he kills me with one of his nasty poison attacks (I was at 4500 poison mitigation and I know it is way too low), so I had to ask our templar to come and help me.

If you have any advices - you are welcome, if you like to see my strategies for nameds - I will post them.

I'm having trouble getting past the guards on the named in the first level. A root aggros the named, so I have been trying to start with a body pull - but the guards pin me before I can get in the root and retreat. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks
An ol' wiz trick..Use the real estate. Nuke his sidekick ..Evac..Set up behind a column and move sideways just far enough to target.Nuke/root him with impunity.. double root him for the sure kill depending on power..As far as the first floor...Body pull, group root FTW.. it definitely worksIf you time it right you should be nearly back in the middle of the floor before they react..If you are getting in trouble and can't tank them pull towards the wall and climb to reset them if your root fails

If you have issues body pulling Nest mobs, go reeducate yourself on the use of Numbing Cold. Or perhaps for some, look it up and learn. It's not a primary root or nuke, and it's not called something cool, so you might not have heard of it.

Well, cannot believe you have difficulties with 1st floor...

Aggressor - kill all guards (pairs of ^^) then root/nuke named - very easy.

Clear up to Taskmaster

Taskmaster - body pull him (have some wards on you) - Numbing Cold - root - kill all minions - root and nuke named

I usually clear the next room completely, just to be sure

Councillor - the only hard guy except for X'Haviz. Single-nuke his pet, root named and run out of his room. Group root his minions, kill them as fast as you can while named stays rooted. Then standard beatdown on him, be sure to stay at maximum distance from him, use some noxious potions. You need to manage your power very carefully.

Body pull on next level. Body pull (very carefullly) on Kettleleader, then standard beatdown, he is very easy to deal with (power management for the win)

Go up to the next level. I usually can dispatch two waves of X'Haviz guards then I just evac and come back to kill the third wave.

Then stand the way some seats are between you and X'Haviz and single-nuke his pet. While X'Haviz tries to make his way to you, root him then standard beatdown.

Complications: you have to maintain very high poison resists (6K+). You have to manage your power. You have to be ready for that effect when he reflects your nuke back to you. I have no idea if it can be predicted or not (I think it is random effect).

For me on taskmaster I cast IS/FG singel root named AoE down the adds with freehand glacial, then electrying flash then firestorm normally kills them all, if not the the next tick from the AoE dots surely will. Kill task master if you have adn issue with him, joust using ceaase for damage free nukes.

Counciler same pull as with task master IS/FG root named AoE burn adds. hide root and nuke till he is dead. Boss, buff divine as he normally only hits me with a divine dot, cure it asap. hide root and nuke, I have yet to have anythign reflected on me, maybee I am just lucky.

I would add:

downstairs Names: Buff poison potion, dress for poison, keep cure noxious potion on hotbar, single root the boss, back out of his range, beat down the minor troups, then joust. Whoever mentioned numbing cold has been there. Normal aoe's will work but numbing cold adds a measure of less beating to you during that time. Joust (move out of their spell range) when waiting for resets. the move in, slam, reroot, etc.

Upstairs Kettleleader is melee only, hits hard, so the pull is key. May need to clear his roommates first. Any soloing wizard can kill him unless really bad luck on root cycles. Subjugation for the win.

ring event: Single root the last survivor of each round until you regen full power, and full health. Any reasonable amount of power regen gear will overcome the power used to single root, and you'll eventually come back to full. A couple of those regen rings gathered from front door boss (which also buff divine, needed for Chamberlain) will give enough life regen that you'll be green for the next ring event. Being green gives a lot of leeway for root misses, bad footwork, etc

Boss: Group root, smack down the pet immediately. Then joust with emphasis on keeping him from casting.

Unless something has changed, it's the divine damage the Boss does that hurts, so I agree with simpwrx02 and dress/buff for divine, and keep cure arcane potion handy. At 120K HP, you'll need patience, jousting, and a little luck. If you do it every try, my hat's off to you. I'm not that good, but he's died enough times I decided it's wasn't a blind fluke...

I'd hate to try it with a warlock, however. I have one of those also, but regardless of what it's adherents believe, it's not in the same league as a wizard for this mission.

Some of u are using body pulls? I just use a little wizy magic...

Most of the named I've found to be pretty straightforward, root, nuke, stay out of line of sight til your nukes are up again. As for the X'Haviz, I've had him reflect before, but not every time I've encountered him. So far as I can tell this is the only time in my 2+ years of playing EQ2 that Dispel Magic actually works, it seems to remove his reflect every time. /shrug

final boss dies quick

freehand/icenova his pet and evac.

come back root/

use the 10% fire blessing from sol ro, then cast wrath of the burning prince, then ball of lava.

then ice nova, then freehand sorcery and manaburn = dead mob.

The final boss reflects spells if his pet is alive, so you cannot ae root cos' you'll root his pet and youself. Cast frigid gift and nova his pet (one shot it,) then quickly cease the boss (it procs snare from frigid to buy you enough time to root him) then root him. If you have enough resistances, it shouldnt be too hard to kill him.

I open up with AoE root every single fight and have yet to have an issue with it. Never had it reflected on me. I think the main reason is that it is an AoE spell and the reflect may only work if the target is directly targeted I target the pet for group root then Ice Nova the pet. Similiar to treyloth in FTH you can cast firestorm and hit him while he is in his reflecting phase as well as fusion and Iceshield.

Boss' major attack for me is something like Corrosive Blast (poison DD).

And the best tactics against him is FG/IC - one-shot pet - Cease on boss - root - beatdown

While his pet is up, X'haviz will reflect spells, as was said above. You don't have to kill the pet and evac though. Just cast group root on the PET (the pet does not reflect anything, and since X'haviz is not the primary target he won't reflect the group root either), then kill the pet and get on the boss.

And use the furniture. No real need to keep poison resist up or keep him from casting if you do that.

D.
