First off, I'd like to point out that yes, I'm insane and yes, I have WAY too much time on my hands. Be that as it may, I recently decided to look at how many resources were required by each profession, how many recipes there were, and so on. I decided to go with Tier 3 as its the first tier that each profession gets their own recipes and none other. I also decided to only use the Essential Profession Volumes 20-29 as my data source. The following is what it takes to make one of every "normal" recipe.
Alchemist

20 – 7 recipes – 14 pliant loam, 21 belladonna roots, 14 rough agate21 – 12 recipes – 24 pliant loam, Yes. You are insane. Nice data.

Now for the really revealing part: how many resources it takes to GET THROUGH those levels. And if you're going to go through that trouble, do it on an even worse (but still not final) tier like T5. And God help you on finding the ore!

I don't think its feasible to do what you're suggesting, Eriol. There are way too many variables to consider. To name a few:Are you only crafting with vitality? Are you crafting Mastercrafted as well as Handcrafted? How far "ahead" are you? (My sage is 96% into 62 and I haven't had to make any T7 spells yet)Are you doing Rush Orders or Normal writs or no writs at all? There are probably a lot more variables, but those are the ones that I can come up with off the top of my head.

The thing that I find interesting is the difference in recipes. I have a 70 tailor and i'm currently working on an armourer and alchie and I have to admit I don't know why there isn't a tons of alchies/sages out there cause they are easy to level.

On average discovery xp with vitality is around the 5% mark (at least at the t4/t5 level). At 49 my armourer got 2 recipes, 4 including the rare. That is 80% that I have to grind out. Alchies, using the example get on average 12, so 24 recipes with rares. That's 125% per level just on first time discovery... hmm... 20 vs 125... where is the balance?

Shadowfire wrote:
There are probably a lot more variables, but those are the ones that I can come up with off the top of my head.
Agree on that ! Very nice data. and we could "guess" the baseline for level speed from them if we had data for the no vitality XP amount for at least one per level (work with me here) assuming that all recipes give the same amount of XP we could make a really good guess. I am fairly sure this is correct - Effect of Vitality - X2 base XPEffect of 1st pristine - X2 Base XPSo a 1st time pristine with vit would be x3 base XP. Lets say a lvl 26 item gives 2% base XP at lvl 26. (pulled out of air) so with Vit and 1st it is 6% else 4% with just VitProf #items Alch - 16 - 17 items needed (16x6) + (1x4) = 100%Armr - 04 - 23 Items needed (4x6) + (19x4) = 100%Carp - 05 - 23 items needed (5x6) + (17.5x4) = 100%Jewl - 19 - 17 items needed (16.6666666666666666666666X6) - 100%Prov - 04 - 23 Items needed (4x6) + (19x4) = 100%Sage - 18 - 17 items needed (16.6666666666666666666666X6) - 100%Tail - 07 - 22 items needed (7x6) + (14.5x4) = 100%Weap - 06 - 22 items needed (6x6) + (16x4) = 100%Wood - 02 - 24 items needed (2x6) + (22x4) = 100%

Of course I lost all vitaltiy well before lvl 49.

While the competition on broker for alchemy made items is severe (to the point I don't bother making anything alchemy wise for non-guildies) people will be in the crafters channel for an hour before I'll be back in town and ready to take orders and help them. I've had people say I charge too much, and usually they come back because they can't find another alchemist. Its like the only alchemists active on my server are just mules that parade out to put stuff up for sale on the broker and log out. Either that or the rest of the alchemists are anti-social.

On the other hand, I can generally find an armorer around. Weaponsmith? Almost never able to find a tier 7 weaponsmith. Just not enough reward for the pain.

Omg, I was hoping someone would do this (as I mentioned in a thread recently)! Thanks I'm really surprised by the ore to loam ratio. I didn't think it was that close. But then again, that's just making 1 of each recipe in each level. I think the real problem comes when needing to grind out entire levels. My alchemist gets them much faster than my other non-scholar classes because of the number of unique recipes. So my other characters need many more resources per level to get through a tier. This is where the ore to loam harvesting imbalance comes in. Not that I'm suggesting finding numbers for grinding whole levels, because as mentioned there are too many variables. I don't know if the devs keep insanely detailed records for tradeskilling like they do for adventuring, but if they do I'm sure they could look through it and answer that question for us. I think the ore:loam harvesting ratio needs to be tweaked on the grind aspect, not the one-of-each-recipe aspect. As it is, I think the harvesting is balanced for the latter instead of the former. My harvesting numbers closely resemble the one-recipe-per-level-per-tier values, but actually with slightly more loam than ore.
