Ok, I got a brand new computer about 5 months ago, I have had no end of headaches with it since due to the fact that I had the brilliant idea to have them put Vista on it when I had it made. Anyway, I am running Vista Home Premium, Pent 4, 3 ghz, 1023 MB RAM, 32 bit , with a Nvidia GeForce 6200 A-LE TD256H.

I am continuously having crashes with the EQ2 client crashing to the desktop or blue screening, or just plain rebooting my system. I have tried everything I can think of to find out what is wrong and now I am at my wits end. I have done all the setting of privliages for vista stuff , making sure its being ran as admin, and checking that all the exe files are set to run as admin. cranked down my perfomance settings to high performance, updated everything from bios to graphics drivers and back again. Nothing I do seems to change anything. I can play EQ2 for 5mins to 5 hours, each time compleatly random as to how long it will go before it crashes. Generally its more of a 5-20 min thing , but at times I seem to get hours of play then go right back to the 5-20 mins.

I cant begin to tell you how frustrating this has been. I will include some dxdiag infor for those of you who can accually understand all that. But, mainly what I am looking for here is some help with this issue. I want to keep playing EQ2, but if I cant find some way to make it work more consistantly it seems kind of pointless for me to keep paying to play a game that I cant get my stupid computer to run *sigh*

I played EQ2 just fine on my XP system , but then it died and I had to get a new one. Figured I would get ahead of the game by getting Vista , since eventually I would have to get it anyway, but now it seems pretty much every game is unplayable to me with this new operating system. I know that Nvidia's drivers have been the subject of quite a few debates since the release of Vista, but I really couldnt say one way or the other if they are the culpret here or not. Ive tried new drivers , beta drivers, old drivers, you name it , but none seem to have done the trick for me. Anyway, here is the dxdiag info... Please, someone help me figure this out...

------------------System Information------------------Time of this report: 9/16/2007, 17:05:00 Machine name:

Operating System: Windows VistaTM Home Premium (6.0, Build 6000) (6000.vista_gdr.070627-1500) Language: English (Regional Setting: English)System Manufacturer: MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD System Model: MS-7211 BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz (2 CPUs), ~3.0GHz Memory: 1022MB RAM Page File: 697MB used, 1601MB available Windows Dir: C:Windows DirectX Version: DirectX 10DX Setup Parameters: Not found DxDiag Version: 6.00.6000.16386 32bit Unicode

------------DxDiag Notes------------ Display Tab 1: No problems found. Sound Tab 1: No problems found. Input Tab: No problems found.

--------------------DirectX Debug Levels--------------------Direct3D: 0/4 (retail)DirectDraw: 0/4 (retail)DirectInput: 0/5 (retail)DirectMusic: 0/5 (retail)DirectPlay: 0/9 (retail)DirectSound: 0/5 (retail)DirectShow: 0/6 (retail)

---------------Display Devices--------------- Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 6200 A-LE Manufacturer: NVIDIA Chip type: GeForce 6200 A-LE DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC Device Key: EnumPCIVEN_10DE&DEV_0222&SUBSYS_A2953842&REV_A1 Display Memory: 506 MB Dedicated Memory: 250 MB Shared Memory: 255 MB Current Mode: 1024 x 768 (32 bit) (60Hz) Monitor: Generic PnP Monitor Driver Name: nvd3dum.dll,nvwgf2um.dll Driver Version: 7.15.0011.6367 (English) DDI Version: 9ExDriver Attributes: Final Retail Driver Date/Size: 9/6/2007 18:56:00, 4988928 bytes (beta drivers) WHQL Logo'd: n/a WHQL Date Stamp: n/aDevice Identifier: {D7B71E3E-4162-11CF-2D43-9E8201C2CA35} Vendor ID: 0x10DE Device ID: 0x0222 SubSys ID: 0xA2953842 Revision ID: 0x00A1 Revision ID: 0x00A1 Video Accel: ModeMPEG2_A ModeMPEG2_C ModeVC1_B ModeWMV9_B ModeVC1_A ModeWMV9_A

The sound card or whatever it is , is built into the motherboard its the VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller.

Never had any issues with the sound though, the sound is great, just cant keep the game running. My old sound card wasnt compatible with Vista so it had to go the way of the buffalo.

Couple of things - can you post the info from the blue screen - if the system restarts automaticly

1. go to control panel

2. System

3 Advanced System Settings, then startup and recovery in the box, remove the click mark from automaticly restart system

For the startup of the application under vista

keep in mind that this helps the MAJORITY of the people, but it may not help everyone with vista.first, locate the following files.LP_plugin.exeEQ2.exeEverQuest2.exethen for each one, right click them and then choose properties. from there you should see a button to "run as administrator" or something similar, i am not at my vista machine, so i cant remember exactly. in that window, look down it, and a little ways down, you will see a checkbox that does the same thing, but when checked, it runs each time the app is run and does not require you to do it each time it is run. also, there is a checkbox for the compatibility options. check that checkbox, and then make sure it is set to windows xp SP2 in the drop down just underneath it. it defaults to xp SP2, but i am just covering all the bases. then, if there is a button at the bottom of the window that says "apply" click it, then click ok. if there is no "apply" button, then just click ok. now, when you run from the shortcut on the desktop, you do not need to set it to run as admin every time you start it, and you should not have the LP_plugin error any longer either.also, it is a good idea to right click the station and EQ2 folders under sony in Program Files, and make sure the folder permissions for read-only is not checked. this will allow the patcher and the launcher to write patches to the folders if patches need to be done.

Finally to be blunt - the video card in the system is not really a good choice for games like eq2, it is a LE version of a 6200, first the 6200 is bottom end, second the LE utilizes what is called turbo-cache or hyper-cache memory, this is a fancy term for only having a little dedicated video memory on teh card and taking the rest of it's memory from system ram - IE: if the card advertises 512 meg Video memory, 256 is on the card, 256 comes from system memory.

The machine is a frankenstien, it was custom built. It has an MSI motherboard and all the basic specs are in the post or in the dxdiag. If you would like some specific information about the system I would be happy to provide it if I am able to.

You need to visit the manufacture website that made that computer and see if they have updated drivers for the components that came with the computer, including but not limited to BIOS firmware update's. You also should use the video driver's they offer for that model computer as it maybe proprietary driver.

Second of all, that computer only came with 1GB of system RAM. Windows Vista is a RESOURCE hog and the minimum recommended amount of system RAM is 1GB. You run an onboard video chip which BORROW'S system RAM for video RAM. Currently, your dxdiag show's 255MB of system RAM being shared for the purpose of Video. That leaves your system with less then 1GB of system RAM to operate Visa let alone running system TAXING applications like EQII.

An additiona GIG of system RAM will go along ways towards performance stability.

I specifically asked for a system that would run Vista and told them that it was for gaming , granted I did have a considerably better vid card in at first , but then it fried and this current one is what I was slapped in the face with when I got the computer back...frustrating? yes... but if I have to upgrade to make it work then I will find a way to do it.. memtest 86 has an .iso download version that you can burn to a CD (burn the IMAGE that the .iso file contains, not the .iso itself just to clarify), and then you set your computer to boot from CD, and it will boot from your newly burned CD. no floppy drive needed.

Its just dishearting to get a brand new system built and then find out that you have been taken for a ride on the system and its nowhere near what you wanted... *sigh*

Both memtest86 and Gold Memory have .iso version's to burn to CD. You need to have a CD burn program that can do .iso's.

Adding more memory and/or getting a better video card WILL NOT eliminate the BSoD's. There is a driver that is causing this that needs to be figured out.

Well, I cant seem to get either one of those memory testers to work on my system, either Im an idiot or Im doing something wrong, either way, cant get them to run from a CD Rom. I did get one tester to run called Memtest or some such thing and it had like 14 errors in the RAM, so I think its safe to say the RAM is bad. I will just have to take the thing into the shop again and have them check it out.

I appreciate all the help you all have given, but I am getting in over my head on testing memory apparently. I think I will go with upgrading the RAM to new and take it up to 2gig for starters then put in a new vid card, but I will have the shop check it out first and see if they can figure out anything first.

Again thanks for the help.

Were you trying to run the memory test program from Windows?
