System:Vista x64 UltimateIntel E6600 Core 2 Duo4 gigs RamNvidia Geforce 8800 GTXVideo Driver:ForceWare v. 163.44I've installed the latest Hotfix Microsoft put out for the virtual address space problem. Seems to have made the problem worse.I've had no problems playing EQ2 until I headed into the instance Neriak where I will get an out of memory crash within SECONDS of entering the zone. It's just impossible to play now. Because literally seconds after logging on and entering the zone with my character, the client will crash.<img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

Well I was able to solve my problem by changing from Extreme Quality, which works fine if I'm not in Neriak, to the Balanced setting which looks like utter crap but at least lets me get through Neriak.

Just for comparison, I've been running around Neriak recently at extreme settings without problems (though it chugs a bit in a few select locations). My spec's;Windows XP (32bit)AMD X2 3800 (Dual Core)2GB RAM2 x GeForce 7800GT 256MB (SLI) - soon to swap to a single 8800GTS 640MB OCLatest released drivers.

<p>See the numerous other threads regarding this, including the 24 pages sticky'ed at the top under Issue Tracking. </p><p>If  you read that carefully you will see that the developer Autenil said on June 6th <i>"This issue is related to constraints that are on EQ2's internal memory manager.  I've relaxed these constraints a little bit which should allow EQ2 to use more memory without complaining.  We'll try to get this hotfixed out within the next few days."</i></p><p>That was followed on June 7th with a statement by<i> </i>TSR JasonC said "<i>There is a fix currently being tested in Quality Assurance and it should be released soon to the Live servers, provided that it doesn't blow up on the Test server beforehand."</i></p><p>Since then, it hasn't been fixed and Sony has gone silent on the issue.  The problem continues to happen everyday as evident by the growing thread and the multiple topics that have been started on this subject.</p><p> NOTE TO SONY:  Your customer service is poor at best.  To promise a fix and not deliver is bad enough but to just go silent on the issue is even worse.  This leaves your customers to believe that they are unimportant and that you do not care.  It also leads us to believe that your development staff is incompetent, what else CAN we think. </p><p> Regards,</p><p> Me</p>

I mean, no updates since June? Not even an "We're working on it, keep yer britches on."  And such a prevalent issue with a large number of players. <img src="http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/images/smilies/c30b4198e0907b23b8246bdd52aa1c3c.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" width="15" height="15" /></p>

well, as an asside, there is a microsoft hotfix available that was supposed to take care of this or at least make vista's memory manager actually work the way it is supposed to with EQ2. chekc the forums, it was floating around here a little while ago.

There are two "out of memory" error messages floating around out there. It's a bit confusing. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p>

<p>Sony,</p><p>Thank you for proving my point (see my earlier post).  Your lack of a response on what you promised has left no doubt about your lack of customer focus.  Even IF you respond at this point, the ineffectiveness of your staff will still be an issue</p><p>Again, you communicated to your customers that this problem would be fixed within a few days.  That was in June of this year.</p><p>Since then we haven't heard a word.  One would expect an update out of courtesy, even if it was to say you are still working on the problem.  Those of us who reach in our pocket every month so that you can make that car payment deserve at least that much.</p><p>I'm asking nicely.  <b><u>Can we get an update, please</u></b>? </p><p>Regards,</p><p> Me</p>

I have been dealing with this issue for 2 months and I am beyond frustrated! I rarely play anymore because ... why bother??? ... I'm in for a few minutes and BOOM!... crash.... I also have more than enough memory and there is NO reason for this. I have posted over and over again.... sent email requests.... yada yada... and NO response...I am amazed at SOE's lack of response to any issue they KNOW is keeping many of us from uninterrupted and enjoyable play! Being a new player, I was about to cancel real fast after I kept getting this issue...I tried some of these fixes...Force game to 1 CPU for dual coreIncrease Pagefile to 4 gigsNewest Nvidia drivers (sorry ATI users) 163.69 which has a fix for flushing video memory properlyAnd it seems to be running ok now...I kept getting a crash to dekstop about reading memory..but, I added this to my boot.ini/usepmtimerAt the end of my boot drive text, and that also has gone away...so far..But, this really needs a major fix...so we don't have to keep playing with our settings all the time..Cheers!

<p>I concur with Lhyn, I have done this and the crashes stopped.  It would be nice if they fixed this as the visual quality drops quite a bit.</p><p>Good luck!</p><p>Slowdethh</p><p>AB</p>

The hotfix numbers are listed in the stickied post on this subject. MS recently made one of them a general release where as it used to be call MS, open a chargeable ticket and get the password to download the correct one. Have tried it on one of the machines and it appears to resolve the issue but it causes issues with other applications. The second one that seemed to work is I backed off the hotfixes and driver, went back to Extreme Quality, turned off shadows, lowered the LOD and the issue rarely occurs any more on one machine, but had no change on another.
