Is it worth it to spend points in the illusionist AA ability Charm? I can't see how that would be useful...

No...the charm is only 12 secs......says it works for lesser epics, but as an Illusionist i wouldn't want any level of Epic on me after a charm wore off.....lol

I played around with the charm and found it to be just slightly more useful than Dispel Magic.

The most glaring problem with the spell is that it doesn't last. It says 16 seconds, but you only really ever get maybe 4 to 6 seconds out of it. If the charm lasted, say, 45 seconds, or at least as long as most dumbfire pets, then it would actually be useful without being overpowered.

As it is, the spell only has a small handful of uses. One pretty nice use is to employ the charm as way of pulling mobs. Of course, if the charm breaks too early or is resisted, you will end up over pulling, which defeats the intended purpose.

If not pulling, the only other time I would use charm was to screw around in groups by charming a mob and sending it on another mob for encounters with linked mobs. Of course, this doesn't really help anything, but it does mess with people's heads and helps break the monotony of grinding.

One third use, which I never managed to master, was to time the charm such that the charmed mob continues to fight for you even after charm wears off. This happed many times, but I could never formulate the exact sequence of steps to repeat it.

This is for PvE, so I can't really say how the spell acts on PvP.
