<p>Since I have 144 inventory slots, the new rare icons help me find the rare drop. Yet, I regret to say that the stacking issue with rare pelts still exist. Those dropped in some chests still do not stack with harvested rare pelts. Heck T5 has two rare pelts that drop from chests that still will not stack with each other. </p><p>Hope those spreadsheets for RoK tradeskill recipes can be tamed. <img src="http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/images/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" width="15" height="15" /></p>

That's a database issue, nothing to do with the icon-appearance changes. Basically the name of the item is, to the game, pretty much non-existent. It's just another column in a table. What matters is what's referred to as a rowid or a dbref, an arbitrary number that's unique to a particular entry in the item database. If the dbrefs of 2 items are the same, they're the same item and can stack. If the dbrefs are different, they're different items even if they have the same name, appearance etc. and they won't stack. For historical reasons, dropped pelts have different dbrefs than harvested (in fact there's several different dropped pelts) and so won't stack with the harvested ones and won't until one of the devs grovels through every loot table of every mob replacing the offending dbrefs.

Translation: They might look the same, but somewhere in what the program sees they are different, and therefore do not stack.

Though they have rather a lot of other things on a the moment too, of course. <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> That would only affect future drops however so any way you look at it, you'll just have to use up the non-stacking ones you have!

Actually this should just be a question of taking each harvestable item in turn and searching the database for multiple versions of the same name item. Then set up a script to run during the next GU which substitutes //OLDVERSION for //NEWVERSION across all player files. This cannot be much different to running a script that gave all persons the bind point skill (and cleared up the quest info) or any other script that runs post-patch.You can then get rid of all the old database entries for the items.Have you considered altering non-rare 'harvestable' drops to be the same as the real harvestable items? Pelts spring to mind, mobs often drop sellable (to vendor) versions of pelts with the exact same name as harvestable pelts, they don't stack and sometimes can't even be used for harvesting (but that doesn't stop people selling on the broker and hoping that the buyer doesn't notice).

<p>Rare stacking (or lack there of) seems to me to be a direct result of a change they made to the game a LONG time ago.</p><p>Back in the day, when you killed a mob and it dropped a tradeskill rare, it used to be items such as "a bent ebon disk" instead of an ebon cluster. They worked the same as an ebon cluster (well, with the exception of updating BBC), and other than it taking up more inventory space than it needed, it worked fine.</p><p>Then one day SoE decided to make mobs drop plain rares, instead of cedar bookcases or augmented leather aprons. The idea was seemingly to reduce the amount of storage space these took up. It was one of those changes that was nice, helpful, that sort of thing. Problem was, although some of the rares got changed and started stacking propperly, there were a few that, although the name was identical, and the icon was identical, just wouldn't stack with the other rares (pelts and gems seemed to me to be the worst offenders). Upon closer inspection, the item id number (as posted above) of these non stacking rares was different to the origional number.</p><p>I am not a programmer, and i have a limited knowledge of these things, but I would hazard a guess that the reason for these rares not stacking is simply because the game still recognises some rares as the old alternatives. These items always had the same in game function as the regular rares, and since they went through an icon and name change, they also appeared the same to players.</p><p>In order to make them stack, it would seem to me that the easiest way would be to replace all of one item with the other. If all items in game with the id tag "aITEM 1655263165 1943708821:cured leather pelt/a" were replaced with items with the tag "aITEM 207082281 1943708821:cured leather pelt/a" I would assume that the stacking issues, at least for cured leather pelts, would cease.</p>

<p> Just love the little sparkles on the rares. A very welcome change <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p><p> Would love to see those sparkles on the mastercrafted armor icons too. I know we can search on the broker using just mastercrafted but it would be nice to just look at a group of armors and have it easy to see the mastercrafted, common, fabled and Leg.</p>

Unfortunately, it's not just rare pelts that don't stack... I have several of the rare gems (Jasper, etc.) that won't stack ether.

I would second Domino's suggestion of using those up first. If you have received a rare gem drop recently (within 60 days) that will not stack. Then please let her know.

<p>I want sparkly armor, too!! Nah, I'm just teasing...well, I wouldnt turn it down, but...</p><p>Anyway, I thought I'd toss in my two cents. I've been grumbling to myself since I started playing (which, admittedly, was only about a year ago) about the pelts that don't stack. I've noticed that it isnt always rares. Any pelt, common or otherwise, that I've gotten as a drop from a mob, chest, or whatever, has not stacked with the ones that I've harvested. Also, those that were mob/chest drops are able to be sold to a merchant. For now, I just sell the common ones, and try to remember to use the rares first, before using the ones that I harvested. Probably not a very helpful post, but I thought I'd toss it in there anyway.</p><p>Wysp O'Wyll</p>

The alternative common tradeskill materials that drop off of Gnoll in Splitpaw can still be used currently. Although after RoK I expect that to change once Domino has the time to look into them.
