View Full Version : The Downtime Guessing Game

Okay...so...servers are down for GU38, which is bringing us (among other things) the dual wield changes, Bristlebane, and the horrible changes to status loot. And the wonderful employees at SOE have told us that the servers will be down for two hours, beginning at 7 AM PDT/10 AM EST. That means servers SHOULD be up at 9 AM PDT/12 PM EST.Of course...servers never come up on time. So...let's begin the fun.I'm betting on a 3-4 hour downtime, in lieu of 2 hours.

Some servers seem to be locked now, that would be a fast GU!

I'm putting money on 3hrs, followed by 3-4days downtime and rollbacks, due to server instability, sneaky LoN patches, etc.

I think the OP saw the server was coming down - this is just a game to see who can guess how long the servers will really be down for =D

I've got my money on a shorter than expected downtime today - SOE does that often enough, and with the last few downtimes being really really really long, we are due for a rapid update this time!! 1 hour and 48 minutes.

I doubt it, my client hasn't downloaded any new files at all yet. The download is usually ready straight after the servers go down, and I can patch immediately.

So we got a couple people saying less than 2 hours, one person saying 3 hours, and me saying 3-4 hours. Any other guesses about the duration? C'mon...I'll send the winner a copper piece.

I already made my guess on the network status page: Scheduled Downtime Updated - 09/11/2007 7:20 PM PDT All EQ2 US servers will be brought down for a scheduled maintenance on
9/12/2007 at 7:00 AM PDT. The estimated down time will be 3 hours.

Although I do have a slight advantage since I can ask for that page to be changed so maybe I shouldn't play
- K

Heh,heh...Ok. So, it's only 8:20 PST and it says, "all servers are up". So technically I think you lose your bet. But then, servers arn't really up cuz ya can't get signed on. LOL.... Good ole SOE is at it again! The chat channel is moderated so you can't speak and no moderator is talking. The banner says go to forums and check announcements for update info on the server [Removed for Content]. And of coarse there's no info. go figure. anyway, just par for the course I guess. we'll get to game eventually. Happy hunting! when ya get there.

We did unlock the servers around 8:20 this morning. However there is a small problem with the patcher that is affecting some players.

If you aren't downloading any files, restart the launchpad and log in again. It might take a couple tries but as soon as you start actually patching files down you should be fine.

Our operations people have found the issue and are in the process of applying the fix to the patchers. For now though restarting the launchpad should work for everyone.

I just saw Grimwell walk in the door so I'll ask him to post something more official for everyone.

- K

Kirstie, still no go on the patcher working prioperly. I spent all day (off and on of course, being my one day this week I was off work) trying to DL the update, and it still won't work. All I get is "annalyzing", and then "update complete", but the play button does not pop up. I contacted tech support and they basically said too bad, you need to delete your Mcafee virus program( the same program I have been running since EQ1 in 1999). Some help would be appreciated; if not from you, then from ANY tech person.
