View Full Version : Appearances question

I heard a few mumblings from people who were sad that the cobalt and adamantine plate appearances are going away.  <img src="http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/9428/060adamantineplatedb7.jpg" alt="" border="0" /> <img src="http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/448/050cobaltplatedt8.jpg" alt="" border="0" />So here is a question.  HYPOTHETICALLY, if a certain halfling were to find a way to slip these appearances back into the game, probably as no-stat or low level armor, what colours would a hypothetical artisan who got the hypothetical recipes want to make?  Assume that the bits in blue (light and dark blue, in the left picture) can be changed to pretty much any colour, but the grey bits (helm, middle of chest) remain the same. Also assume that:<ul><li><b>there are no promises anything will ever happen with this</b></li><li>this is not going to be made into tradeskill status armor, so don't start describing the -power stat schemes you'd want, this thread is just about colours.</li><li>totally day-glo colours may not be possible (or if they are, may be vetoed by Lotus on the grounds of good taste)</li><li>asking for alternate graphics is not an option, it's this set under discussion and this set only</li><li>it would only be plate class wearable</li></ul>Let the arguments begin!  <img src="/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

<p>Theoretically making a hypothesis on the hypothetical situation at hand, I think the picture on the left should stay in the game, and the picture on the right takes a hike.</p>

What if you hypothetically if you could make a plate armor that counts as cloth armor with no stats... so a hypothetical Norrath's Best Conjurer High Elf named Josgar could almost hypothetically wear plate looking armor?Would you hypothetically not be able to do that/  at ALL? <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY<img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />" />

<p>I have always seen that style of armor reminiscent of a mutant that controls magnetic powers ( <img src="http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/images/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" width="15" height="15" />&nbsp<img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> So a nice deep red on it would be great. For higher level fluff of course... but if we are talking low level treasured, or something similar, then a nice dark orange/maroon would make it look good. Not to mention that the ones most likely to wear it (Sarnek) have a color that will blend into that.</p><p>On a side note.. I was looking for some good fluff armor to get my Guardian, and the most distinctive armor I could find was the light-blue Frozen armor from Everfrost.. and I was thinking, how great it would be to have some lighter colored armors, which currently don't exist in game. Like a light green, a yellow, heck, even a pink armor for those female players that want to wear them (Winter would love it, heh).</p>

Definitely a black or dark grey set, for starters.  Dark colors are very popular.  Heck, in Dark Age of Campalot black was the single most expensive dye/enamel available and people would save up for days or weeks so they could afford to dye a new set black. If more than one set could be slipped in, I'd go with teal and grey for the second one.  Not too many teal items that I've noticed other than some leather sets.  Don't make it =too= teal though.  Think blued steel or maybe tarnished bronze. While a red and grey set would look good, I get the feeling that the attractive red shades are reserved for high-end loot.  A dark reddish pink would compete with the Deathfist Blood armor set.  And a light pink set probably wouldn't be very popular.  So I'd skip red shades entirely.I don't believe there's a green plate set anywhere in the game right now.  That might be worth considering as well.  Good color for players who want to RP a nature-oriented tank without wearing leather.Summary:  dark grey (like the picture on the right)green (not as bright as Emerald Hide but not definitely not as dull as Highland Stalker or Trade Link)teal/cyan (like the picture on the left, but a bit darker and shinier)NOT redHopefully you can slip this in ;^)EDIT:  Just reread and noticed that the dark blue part of the armor can also be changed.  That opens up another great option, blue and gold.  Main color blue, trim gold.  Finding the right shades to match well with the unchangeable grey shouldn't be too hard:  start with the grey parts as the baseline and change the hue to yellow should be a good start.

I'm not very good at imagining colour schemes on items but I would say maybe a bronze style one maybe, if it is going to be hypothetically low level than I bronze style look, or iron would be more in line.I'm not sure you could go much off the beaten track with colours eg a bright yellow.  How about say a dark green, and I mean real dark green just like the cobalt is hard to tell blue from black the green would be much the same, and the shade would be a slightly lighter colour.  I just wish I could use picture editing programs.

I spent a great deal of time looking for different armor styles for my guardian, and there is a deep forest green plate with no stats that drops of the lizardman in the surrounding area of the Feerott. I forget the name of it, but it was also a set of armor I was concidering getting.</p><p>Since we are not limited to basic colors... lets go into the metalic colors... How about a Metalic Red with silver detailing.. Or the first truly golden armor... in EQOA the paly armor quests would give you a golden hued armor which was very sought after. I believe it was called Sun-Etched armor. Of course, there is still one suggesting that could be attempted.. but it will coincide with the T5 fabled armor... and tha tis: brilliant metalic white... silvery even. Very nicely done, this could compete with most of the other armors out there in desireability for fluff.</p>

I would be okay with seeing many colors available.  Sometimes it is frustrating to look at the same color schemes over and over again.  Though, if that Hot Pink from above goes in, I am going on a Fae killing spree (Player Characters) on Venekor.  I can tolerate a light pink, salmon pink or maybe a melon color, but that hot pink is so obnoxious it makes my eyes scream MIGRAINE!!

I would really really really like it to be bronze/copper/rust coloured.  Kind of the same colour as the new Indium armour, but it's a nicer model.  But I suppose if it's just going to be low level, I could go out and mine a load of tier 1 ore until I can make a full set of bronze anyway...

OKie, I've done a color pairing grid of some of the colors I'd like to see (note: this is far from what all I would like but I figured I wouldn't flood you with too many)<img src="http://www.ulujain.org/temp/colorpairs.jpg" alt="" border="0" />There are 3 columns of color pairs with the highlighted color on the left and the main color on the right of each pair. Also, because these colors are true colors, I couldn't exactly give any metallics so anywhere you see a light grey that's meant to represent silver and the bright yellows are meant to represent gold.

Three is a great concept, but is much too stark a contrast. What I think would look great is a nice true buttery gold shade with some dark blackish gold detailing - imagine dark, metal-appropriate bixie tones. 4,5, and 6 all look INCREDIBLE - for 6, I would just deepen the contrast colour to more of a deep bronze shade. 4,5, and 7 I must say look very similar to other sets already in the game. 8 and 9... I would feel as if I had died and gone to heaven but they're not very appropriate for the setting. Maybe if there were ceremonial armors and such, sure... but being that these are more basic sets, I'm imagining a colour more like the Greaves of the Arisen with a deep eggplant detailing. If nothing else, we DEFINITELY need a breastplate to go with the Greaves of the Arisen as I've not found one yet. For number 9, if you added a slight brown tone to that purple it would be gorgeous - it would also be great with eggplant detailing. 10,11, and 12 look great. 10 would need a deeper detailing colour - more like a nice, rich bronze. 11, while it looks great, is too similar to a ton of sets. 13, I love the colour combo but just not for this appearance. 14 and 15 are gorgeous. I think 15 is a great option, very rich but reasonable for the setting. 14 is gorgeous, but we have so many dark sets. Hmm. Maybe a DEEP slightly purple pink would be nice too.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;color: #ff99ff;">Again, I highly recommend a rose gold - let me find a good rose gold pic.</span></p><p><img src="http://www.silverb3.co.uk/acatalog/9ctRoseGoldElvishPendant.JPG" alt="" width="200" height="188" border="0" /></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;color: #ff99ff;">Like that - soft, different, but subtle. Granted, I WANT WANT WANT some real pink armor... I would die for a pink leather though, moreso... imagine a nice pink leather or chain look, complete with one of those long nearly knee-length skirt pieces! I would die. Dead. Til I died from it. Of happiness.</span></p>
