<p>So there I was last night trying to complete a quest in lesser fay to kill thexians for thier armor with my fiance. I start pulling the right kind of mob fight him, kill him and .... "no item found".</p><p>whatever ... pull another one, kill it and "no item found" .... another ... same thing. At this point my fiance (who is still pretty knew to the whole MMO genre) exclaims, "what is he not wearing pants or something? i could have swore the model didnt show him in his boxers (unless hes a briefs man). why aren't these pants dropping?"</p><p>I tried to (sarcastically) explain to her that sometimes in MMOs, bears don't have paws or fur. Sometimes Wolves don't have teeth or tails and giants don't have toes. that there are a lot of deformed creatures out there.</p><p>I completely agree with her, always have. Why is it that if i kill a bear for bear claws ... sometimes i don't get any. don't they have 4? am i that powerful that i mutalated thier paws so bad they are unrecognizable? and why the heck are these thexians not wearing pants? </p><p>thank god she hasn't asked me to explain why bears and lizards drop coin and swords.</p>

<p>maybe you damaged the item in the process of killing the mob.</p><p>And as for animals dropping weapons and armor... well, what do you think the animal had for lunch last time... or maybe the sword of that unfortunate traveler got impaled on the skin of the beast.</p><p>Not all mobs will always update properly... I remember getting 3 bat wings from one bat, for example... I thought that was a particularly prodigious bat!</p>

my favorite is when you kill earthcrawlers for leg segments, and you get none. its a bloody centipede, you should at least get 1 per kill =x

I have thought about these types of issues but concluded that the "drop" is supposed to be random and not realistic.  Thank goodness for that too, because I know of no creature, man nor beast that carries treasure chests around with them and if they did, they would probably need to drop them before they began fighting.  I'm happy to see a huge chest drop off a critter less than half the size of the chest and I don't wonder why they would need a huge chest to tote a book or a necklace.  I just accept it as part of the game.

<p>Yep.   When I've ever come across such an issue, I congratulate myself for destroying my enemy.  Sure, if everyone had surgical ability to slay their opponent, you may always find the item you seek, but many of us are swinging madly in hopes of not being slain ourselves.  The bear's paws are mained beyond use, the thexian's pants blew off when I tore him a new one...  Hey, I play an ogre bruiser, I do that kind of thing, don't look at me like that.</p><p>Keep in mind too, that you may be looking for a quality item for that quest's use, not simply any old bear paw will do.  Sometimes the paw may be too small or the thexian may be wearing hotpants that day instead of the breeches you're seeking...  If that's the case, then no quest item for you!</p><p>But then, trying to tie logic into a fantasy game where you fight for goods and sling magic isn't always the best course of action, or then you're wondering where that skeleton hid those coins...  ::shiver::</p><p>~Gnobrin!</p>

In the text for the quest you guys were doing (if its the one I think it is) the quest giver says that he requires several un-damaged pristine armor pieces so can study them. He makes a remark about not giving him the ones you bang up when getting them from the Thexians. There is usually some kind of text in the quest for items that don't update every time. Sometimes you need a perfect tooth from a wolf, well you could kill 8 that have bad gum disease and finally find one with healthy teeth. At least that is the explanation that I whisper to myself after getting 20 'no quest items found' messages.

<p>It's canine saliva that freaks me out. So I kill a wolf, do I take it's tail, the whole pelt, maybe a tooth or claw? No, I'm offered the chance to root around inside it's mouth and scrape out its drool. Heroic drama of the kind you'd get in any fantasy story, I don't think. </p><p>I don't loot it. Some of my friends think it amusing to wind me up, and send me canine saliva in the mail. One at a time. I'll kill them in their sleep one day. <img src="http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/images/smilies/908627bbe5e9f6a080977db8c365caff.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" width="15" height="15" /></p>

LOL... nice one gnobrin... too funny... and to the OP ...ya... it blows. I've done those quests. I think it's 2 or 3. you're asked to get some items from the thexian's at the thexian camp, near GF zone in LF. I've done it with my capped level warlock so you know I was blasting those thexians out of the water left and right... and it took awhile before i got all the updates i needed. I can't imagine doing it solo. it'd take hours for one quest. Which wouldn't be bad if it gave me 30%xp (or something significant)  but it doesn't.

I like to believe that these quest items frequently get destroyed in combat. The ESRB won't allow them to show it, but in fact you are ripping your opponent to shreds during the course of battle. Only occasionally are you able to kill your enemies without damaging the item that you need for your quest.

<p>I understand the game physics of this, but honestly, if I kill a guard, why can't I have his armor?  I die and I get mine repaired to 100%, why can't I get his repaired?</p><p>OP   believe me I feel your pain, I first came from Elder Scrolls Morrowind where EVERYTHING on the person was lootable.  When I started playing EQ1 I was like [Removed for Content], how can that mouse not have mouse skin?  I finally figured out that IF they did that,  everything would have so many drops on it, the game would probably crash due to item overflow.  Example if you kill said guard from above, you get at least 15 slots worth of the items he had (amor and jewelery and 1 weapon) not to mention he might have 6 32 slot bags full of junk with him, can you imagine the load of junk you would get?</p><p>Which in the opposite side begs me to ask,  where exactly does the average guardian hide his 6 strongboxes full of crap when he is fighting?   Don't tell me he drops them because if he did, when the scout suddenly evacs, he would have no bags or loot?  </p><p>Honestly its one of those two way streets that sony won't build into the game.  That goblin simply can't hold 6 strongboxes like a ratonga can.  That bear, yep he might have 4 paws but no you can't have them because the NPC wants only paws with 7 white hairs on the pinky toe, nothing else will do.  That bat, well, that extra wing was a mutation caused by the level 2 wizard that tried to nuke him using the wrong spell.   Yeah yeah thats it.</p>
