hey all, i'm fairly new to eq2, bought on release but quickly switched to WoW. I don't want to make this a "what's the best class thread" so i'll try not to I'm looking for advice for a class that would best suit me. What I want is a class that can start in neriak (I don't have EoF), doesn't need AA to be effective, can solo with little to no downtime (at least for the first 20 lvls). What I don't want is a necro or sk. I've done alot of reading on the forums and am thinking maybe a warlock, bruiser, fury, or maybe assassin any help on this will be greatly appreciated, thanks

I'd vote bruiser, maybe warlock. I have both and the bruiser is pretty easy to solo, especially once you get feign death. You'll die more (IMO) with the warlock just by virtue of biting off more than you can chew with AoE spells if you're not careful. Either one is capable of mowing through mobs and if you follow the Neriak questlines you can easily quest up to 20 with little to no grouping required.

Something with stealth/invis would be an advantage as far as questing goes. I briefly had an assassin and felt it was a bit difficult to solo, but a brigand might be easier... a scout might wanna chime in there.

thanks, can anyone else shed some light? I have a lvl 20 shadowknight hoping that lvl 20 would bring me spells to help me solo like everyone says SKs can, but that's a no go, i'm sure i'm doing something wrong so if an exerience SK could drop me a tip or two that would be coo.

From what I have seen between me and my wifes classes. Bruiser is handsdown the best. The FD makes getting places others have problems much easier too. Second I would go with a druid due to the survivability that healing gives you. If you want to nuke, fury. If you want to melee, warden with str/ca line. CA line requires EoF though.

*cough* ... If you don't have EoF... I don't think you can start in Neriak. Sorry.

If you want to solo, you need Gear, you need spell upgrades and you need patience.

The gear will come in time... specifically, level 22 when you can get mastercrafted at a decent price, or harvest your rares and have someone do it. The spell upgrades are also a complete necesity. App4 just will not cut it if you plan on soloing. And patience is the best virtue you can have in this reguard... the SKs have to pick their targets carefully... a mob that has too much power will own you, so make sure you start low, and little by little judge your stance vs your mob. If you see that you will not be able to pull a victory, then Feign Death... that is the key to a good solo SK.. knowing when to call it quits.

I've never had an issue soloing with a SK. Though, I have been playing the class since 1999 in EQ1. *coughs* Bruiser would be my next choice of soloing tank. With a self heal, feign death and high avoidance, they seem to be great with those who have to solo for the most part. Mages I would not say are the best soloers as much, since they may have a bit of a wait with downtime as they have to wait for power/mana regeneration more than melee classes to be effective.

Keeping your spells and equipment topped out helps a LOT.

*Edit: I thought Neriak was a free zone and you just need EoF to roll an Arasai there?*

You're on the right track with the possible classes you've chosen here... I am a serious alt'oholic, and many of my characters are in their 20's before I then have to try something new. Bruisers are one of *my* favorite classes, since they can beat, take a beating as well as heal themselves (tiny, but it's great in a pinch). I like the healer route too, Wardens being my other favorite classes to play. Wardens really have some trouble in really dishing out damage, but unless you're caught unaware (Adds in a pinch or in a terrible group), you're never gonna die due to the awesome heals you're given.

Best of luck to you, and have fun!

~Gnobrin!

After leveling him/her to 70 I would raid then if I got bored go to another character.

I'm a serious alt-a-holic myself and have 9 alts with 1 main. My main is my 70 warden Amana, my main alt is a 70 SK and my alt-alt is my 70 Assassin. I'm working on another toon who is currently a level 46 Illusionist. After that I have a 37 warlock, 32-33 Wizard, 32 brigand, 27 monk, 21 paladin, and 21 inquisitor.

Neriak was added for free, don't need EoF or whatever to play as a "emosai".

As far as picking a class goes I'll throw in a vote for bruiser.

How bout 25 alts, with 2 mains each on 3 accounts. Great for 3 boxing. Warden/monk for most fun all around. However, any priest will get you groups.

I'll put in a vote for Fury. You're a killing machine once you get big nuke at 23. And melee using Animal Form (AA spell) is amazing. You'll never die if you know what you are doing because of the heals plus Sow, druid rings ports, underwater breathing. You can get 35% run speed with AA's in your early teens (40% if right race).Dude, you gotta get all the expansions. You are playing at a severe handicap without all the AA's.

Neriak is indeed free content, but you will need EoF to play a Fae or Arasai. But you can still make any other evil or neutral race that can start in Neriak.

And on a side note if I could walk into my local best buy or circuit city or any store for that matter and pick it up, I prolly would have buy not but the only everquest software I ever see is everquest +all 13 expansions. I could buy WoW all day long but for all us players that are burnt out on WoW and want to play EQ2... well i'm glad I bought it on release. anyways i've gone way off the topic for this thread. I started a bruiser last night, lvled to 7, got bored and started a fury, lvled to 7 and I can't wait to play him some more. i'm worried tho that at level 20 he's gonna slow way down with downtime and such.

I bought EOF at local Best Buy about a month ago and it includes EQ2 and all expansions for $39.99.

I've never had any downtime with my Fury. And now that I have Animal Form ( got it at lev 24 with 22 AA's) I know that I can go into super frenzy melee mode and it restores power at a fast rate. Low power is the only potential downtime for a Fury. Check my posts on the Fury forum.

I've soloed a Bruiser and an Assassin out of Neriak to the low 20's...Bruiser was definitely the more effective soloer. Bruiser/Monk are two of the best solo classes in the game.
