View Full Version : Taking the mischief out of the Cloak of Mischief? :(

Some of us kinda considered 70% growth to be a form of a mischievous prank.

30% just isn't enough to be any kind of mischief. I would say the floor value for being mischievous is 50%. 70% was great...but 30 is gimpy <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY<img src=" width="15" height="15" />" width="15" height="15">

Makes me sad. Keep the mischief on the cloak, dammit. So what if people think it's obnoxiously huge? That's the entire point! That's the mischief.

Edit -

I'd like to note that this kinda makes this particular effect on the cloak moot compared to the Marr cloak. The "DPS" effect of the Bristlebane cloak now has both less dps mod and less size increase than the Marr cloak. The only thing it really had over it was the fact you were 20% bigger - and it was probably the main reason I wanted to wear the cloak. Otherwise I would have just continued to switch off between Garanel and Marr.

Pretty much THE big reason I would have had to use this cloak would be for the 70% growth. Sure, 10 fixed dps is nice, but 15 dps and 50 strength and 50% growth...It's like, what's the point? Now the cloak really doesn't have any use to me. 30% growth. ...Um, that's lame. 70%? Much better. 50%? Acceptable.

I think the goal of it was to be more of a fun/versatile item than comparable to the specific effects on one cloak. Considering the cloak of mischief effect is constant for 30 minutes rather than a proc, and that the cloak has potential for other effects randomly, it's not really comparable. Correct me if I'm wrong, but cant you just right click the Bristlebane cloak for whatever effect you get and then equip the Marr cloak anyway?

PS- The real problematic thing is the shrink effect on the Bristlebane cloak. It's broke as hell in PVP, being 30% of your size combined with the rendering bugs it seems to create.

OOC.

Excuse my clear ignorance of the exact implementation of these effects, but are the Deity cloaks supposed to *only* function if you are a follower of that deity. Like, that's the precise point, a power granted from that deity to his/her followers?

So how can people swap between cloaks for the effects? Is the deity restriction comment on the cloaks "bugged", and not being applied?

Cloaks work independant of deity once earned sadly.Miracles/blessings and pet are the only things that require you to be a follower.

You do not have to follow a deity to use their cloak, but no, you cannot just take of the Bristlebane Cloak and equip the Marr Cloak. The effect suspends until you put the cloak back on.

It's really lame how the Marr buff, even if temporary, is now better in every way. The "DPS" portion of the Bristlebane cloak now has

-No strength-Less DPS mod-Less growth

Correct me if I am wrong... but Bristlebane's Cloak still increases your size to 70% of max... and makes you smaller to 50%.. the cap was placed on the stacking of this effect.. so that you can't use other items... like the LoN cloak and combine it with the Bristlebane hate reduction (50% size decrease) to make your char about half the size of a brownie (This was hillarious though). The size portion doesn't have a cap that I know off, so you can literally give the person a bolster, the bristlebane cloak and the Marr increase all together to get someone that can use Tarrinax as a mount .

No, it only increases you by a flat 30%. Which is really uncool and pointless. 70% was much more mischievous/prank-like.

So tired of people whining and getting stuff like this nerfed when they don't even realize that the POINT is for it to be an obnoxious prank - it is the Cloak of Mischief.

I am personally 100% fine with them making it so the growth/shrink effects of this cloak not stacking with any other growth/shrink effects....So long as its set to its original value, heh.

Um, how is making yourself larger, by any percentage, a 'prank'?

Also - Mage: "Will you shrink already?! I can't target the mob past you're fat [I can too control my vocabulary]!"Coercer behind oversized PC + dungeon with narrow halls = no mez on the extra mobs. This gets ugly. v_v

It really makes me feel all warm and fuzzy down to my furry halflng feet that stuff like this exists in the game (preferably in the original 70% flavour imho). I do understand there will be situations where this sort of thing gets annoying to other players, but presumably the cloak wearer can cancel the effect? Does the command to hide illusion form work for this effect? If not perhaps we need something that those suffering from sense of humour failure can do to hide it themselves...

The cloak of Mischief is a complete waste of a slot unless they do some drastic redesign. I don't know what they were thinking when they made it but whatever it was it wasn't "benefits".

i think that 200% is minimal, and for shrink 70% at least

Actually, I think they have made it too easy to switch around on dietys. They need to replace the cloak restriction and put in some serious repercussion for dropping a diety. Sorry, derailing the topic. It is kinda the reason the cloak is there. Dont nerf for the whiners.

TheGeneral wrote:
.....put in some serious repercussion for dropping a diety.
I'm trying to get my head around this frame of thinking...Why would you have serious repercussions for deciding not to worship any particular diety? If I'm Catholic but decide I'd rather be Taoist, do I face any "serious repercussions" for doing so? Not that I'm aware of. I can't see why any religion other than fanatical ones would decide you needed to be punished for not believing the way they want you to. That's like, crazy, dark ages stuff and I think Norrath is a fair bit beyond the dark ages, crusades, and world wide lunacy. And just so my post isn't completely off topic, I had no idea the size increase was so big to begin with, and while it would be nice to have 70% increase, it'd suck on an Ogre, Troll, Barbarian, and soon to be Sarnak.

I love how it was an Ogre who complained that the 70% increase was too much, because his warg was now larger than the building on the EL docks.

Probably just did it cuz size-items where stackable.

A little gnome getting the brisstle-cloak shrink, then using that hat-shrink followed by a toadstool from a carnivorous plant...

.. that was like %50 shrink +%50 shrink + %50 shrink...

"Man that mesquito just killed me!"
