My former graphics card a basic Nvidia 6600 died recently. I upgraded to an overclocked 8600GT manufactured by BFG. Since I upgraded I'm having two major problems with Everquest II.1) Sometimes the display will show these thin white horizontal lines all across the display, while I'll get strange flickers in the background. I wish I knew how to describe this better, but these effects take up the whole screen. This effect happens everytime I play for any period of time. It appears to happen quicker or easier when particle effects are going off. For instance a raid or when I use my Fury's Ring of Fire.2) Sometimes when the display has to render objects quickly (griffon ride, large battle, horse ride), my screen will lock up. I have to reset and reboot to get back.I'm currently using 162.18 Forceware drivers. Here is the dxdiag (abbreviated)
The dxdiag can be found here:http://www.torrick.com/DxDiag.txt

For some reason clicking that link above reduced the upper case characters to lower case, but pasting the link into the address window worked.

1. check to verify that the card is not overheating

2. verify that there is sufficient power to the card, if the card has an aux power connector make sure this connector does not run anything else but the card

the first errors (white lines, flickers) you describe are exactly what can happen when you force the drivers to enable Anti Aliasing / FSAA and or Anisotrope Filtering. I had the exact same issues with my HD2600XT as the AA was set too high. (ATI even disables AA via Catalyst AI as its doin so much problems in eq2).What you can do is:- first test out if its really this, set all AA/FSAA/AF settings to program controlled in the advanced driver settings and see if its then working- if its that i would recommend first enabling AF and seeing if its working correctly (never had any problems with even 16xAF)- then enable AA at x2 and see if its working (for me white flickering all over some zones is gone, but i have sometimes white lines around my char), any setting higher then x4 is creating the white lines around every texture.just play around with the settings til its working fine

Is there a diagnostic tool that could tell me. I'm sorry, I know how to use the machine, but not too skilled at the mechanics of it all.EDIT: Downloaded the diagnostic from Nvidia. Card is running a decent temperature when this happens. (around 140 F)2) When I installed the card, it did not appear to require (or even have a connector for) it's own power source.EDIT: I took the card out of the machine. There's nowhere to put the power connector for a PCI-Express card.

check the power connector again, 8600GT has for sure its own 12V connector. Only new 3D card not having one is HD2400/600 series...

UPDATE:I might be good. I did a substantial driver cleanout and installed the most recent beta drivers from Nvidia. So far so good. Haven't had a problem. Now just need to go on the raid this weekend to give the machine a workout. Thanks for the help.FINAL UPDATE:I'm 90% certain I'm good. Three good sessions with no problems. It looks like I had a driver conflict or the beta drivers I'm using play better with EQII. Thanks again for all the help.
