My husband and I decided we want to come back to EQ2 after being away for more than a year, but we encountered a problem.

My husband's computer runs Windows XP and he was able to flawlessly install the game, download all patches and log in. However, my computer runs a Windows Vista (32-bit) and as soon as I get to the patcher, a message pops us that says the patcher failed to initialize and that the server may be busy. In the details window it says the patcher failed to find a proper connection.

We both share one internet connection through a router. I tried disabling my firewall, put EQ2.exe and Launcher.exe on the exceptions list both in the built-in firewall and McAfee, I checked to see if my Work Offline option is checked in IE7 (it isn't), right-clicked on the EQ2.exe icon and checked the "run as administrator" tab. Also, I made sure that my computer account has permission to do anything to the game folder itself.

So, currently, I am at a loss. If anyone knows how to fix it, I will be more than grateful.

I will post my computer configuration if needed.

McAffee is known to bug the launcher, that is for sure one problem.Another could be that it may be necessary to run it with admin rights (rightclick -> run as administrator)However, to save you a huge bandwith and time, the much more faster way would be if you just copy the whole folder from your XP computer to your vista computer and use those files.

It worked! Thank you.

I had done the right click --> Run as administrator earlier before, but I didn't have Windows firewall and McAfee disabled. Now I ran the msconfig program and unchecked all of the McAfee components and the firewall at startup, restarted, right-clicked on the EQ2 icon and selected the Run as administrator option and the Launchpad actually started downloading additional content before even giving me the option to enter my log-in name and password. Now I am downloading game patches.

Thank you much!
