<p>Well, I started out as a brigand, and was told they don't have as much DPS as a swashy. Sooo I betrayed to Qeynos. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> My request from you guys is to give me tips, or anything I should possibly know as this class, so I can be the best as possible.</p><p><img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p>

Well, first, I'll just say: whoever told you Brigs don't do as much DPS either hasn't played a Brigand or just wasn't good at it.That said, it is much easier to have high DPS as a Swashy. Not that playing the class is any bit less fun, but a Brigand really has to be a lot more involved to put out the numbers, but when they do, they can frequently top Assassins and even Wizards in single target parses. Now with that out of the way: congratulations on picking the best looking profession in Norrath. As far as strategy, the main two are A) Agro control and B) Debuffs, Debuffs, Debuffs. You should know and upgrade your detaunts. Like a Brigand, you have a single target detaunt, a detaunt with -1 threat position and stealth, and a detaunt proc. Unlike Brigands, you get a threat transfer, at the cost of Beg For Mercy. In a group, it should go without saying (though I'll say it anyway, as I've grouped with several swashys that I've actually had to ask) that threat transfer should ALWAYS be on the tank. Use the Evade line often--like a tank's taunt, it just goes to waste if you don't use it; don't wait until you grab agro. I generally use it after my first few debuffs, then every time it pops after that (unless the fight is almost over).Which brings me to debuffs. As a Swash, your main roll isn't necessarily burning things down as quickly as possible, you want to make sure EVERYBODY can burn things down more quickly. To that end, I generally open with: <Flanking Mitigation Debuff> <Mitigation Debuff> <Defense / Wisdom Debuff> <Frontal Parry Debuff> <Combat / Spell Skill Debuff (at higher levels)> <Magic / Divine Debuff>. This will not only increase your DPS on further attacks by lowering the mobs ability to defend against them, but will help the entire group/raid. It's really the most important part of playing a Swash, I've seen many just randomly mash Combat Arts--don't be one of them. Loosing straight damage CAs before lowering mitigation is a sure way to cripple your DPS.For soloing, whenever you can stealth, use your stealth attack from behind to open the fight. This will give you a few seconds to loose your back attacks before the Mob can turn on you, meaning you can save Cheapshot for a second round of them when it repops. Unlike a Brigand, you won't have the luxury of a lot of long stuns, so it's important to maximize the time you have. Set up your hot-bars so that your stealth attack and cheapshot are near to your back attacks (if you click them), or that your back attacks are within easy key-reach (if you use hotkeys) so you can make the most of the time. Again, open with debuffs first, then burn them down as quickly as possible. And the cardinal rule: No matter what, ALWAYS look good doing what you're doing. You're a Swashbuckler, after all <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/e8a506dc4ad763aca51bec4ca7dc8560.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" width="15" height="15" />

My first tip is to thoroughly read this forum.  I don't mean that in a sarcastic way.  There is a wealth of information here, and there are alot of things that you probably haven't though of asking yet, but you will read them and later on think "Hey, I read this awhile back!" I tend to find a lot of useful information that way, simply by reading and absorbing, and finding out after the fact just how useful it had been.

<p>Thanks for the tips! I will def. try to read through this forum, but usually the class forums are 70's griping about resisted spells, nerfs, etc... *looks sadly at fury forum*</p><p>Any idea what is all about people switching to this new upcoming deity? *shrug*</p>
