View Full Version : OMG I Hate Books (Well, not really)

I finally made some shelves for my little house and decided to place all of those books. It was soooo time consuming. I've read through a couple of the book posts, but has anyone found an easier way to place books on shelves? I'm already shivering at the thought of moving them all when I get new shelves. When I get home I'll post a pic of the ways they are placed now.

It doesn't help the time involved, but to allow the maxi placement area (I can place on EVERY shelf up the the second shelf of a double-stacked maple bookcase), I will use the assorted petrified eyes, /crouch, and the requisit shaky tower of furniture to climb on.

My advice: Don't bother with bookshelves. My entire 270+ library sits on top of 3 Intricate Oak Tables (and the "stacks" of books line the walls in thier disheveled looks.)

Easier/quicker way, none to my knowledge I'm afraid. I've found that the large Fir bookshelves work quite well and look quite nice in my opinion. So far I've managed to cram in ~150 unique books in there.Ok linking (because they're huge and I'm too lazy to resize them) in some pictures from my basement library finally.Picture 1Picture 2Picture 3There's even a slight level of categorising in there. First by the books style and then into class of book lore and legend for example. Eventually I was thinking of adding some of the single shelves to put some of those annoying stacks on but as with the rest of my house its a work in progress.Using the large fir bookshelves I didn't need any fiddling around with separate shelves and only one piece of furniture to stand on to place stuff on the upper shelf. The middle shelf was on eye level and you could crouch to reach the bottom two shelves.

I used to hate books, now I can't get enough of them. For me, getting them aligned is easier when I'm plunked down in front of the shelf I'm working on, and in first-person view. Ducking, sitting ... it depends on the shelf ... hope that helps? Pile up your books within visual reach, then fix your camera focus so you're comfortable so that tweaking is easier ... Of course, I'm weird, and have been known to hang from chandeliers to place things!

Now, the only petrified eyes I know of is the ones you get as a reward from the bone racial collections. Those shape change you into the race of your choice (if you have a bone of said race as well) BUT as a house item? Are those different eyes?

I'm sure they meant that they used the eye's illusions to change their heights and enable them to place objects where they wanted them to be.

Just throwing this out there as an idea...what about making bookshelves auto-shelf books. What I have in mind is you open the bookshelf, and a bag like dialog box opens up. In this dialog box, there are X rows and Y columns, where as x is the number of shelves and y is the number of books each shelf can hold.So then you place your books into the slot in the container, and it's image appears on the shelf, from which you can then right click to read/examine.I understand that some books are larger than others and would not fit on the shelves in such a fashion, though. Perhaps flag certain books as being "quick shelfable", and the other, larger books still would have to be placed manually. In fact, I think I'll /feedback this tonight when I log in.

I was just toying with this idea myself today when I moved all my L&L books (and books of similar height) onto a new shelf. I think it is probably a possible feat, but very unlikely.

Someone once posted a handy hint about using a medium maple shelf to help align books on the maple bookcases. You can place the shelf on the bookcase shelves and it's then easy to place the books on the medium shelf. Remove the medium shelf when done.I've been using this method ever since I first read it and it really does make things a lot easier - no more gymnastics for maple bookcases
