Dling EOF

I bought the EOF  at a store, not through the digital download. Brought it home and discovered my cdrom drive controller is dead. Someone just told me I can go to my account and put in the key for EOF in the space where you would normally enter the key for regular eq2. Is this correct? I don't want to mess up my acct settings inadvertently. And will I have to pay for it too?
