I know that LON goes live today...but unfortunately I am stuck at work and unable to test out the drop rate of LON boosters. Dose anyone know yet what mobs will drop the boosters? Will it be raid mobs? Named mobs? Solo con mobs?

To prevent camping, any and every mob will be able to drop boosters. They exist on a separate loot table that won't affect any other item drops, and will drop as chest loot from green-or-higher mobs. The only real question is how rare they'll turn out to be.

They should drop from any old mob. What I wonder is, will they drop immediately after launch, or will the servers have to be restarted before they drop - in the form of a hotfix to put them to drop.Anyone happen to know, before I go slaughtering?

Chest drops or body? I am hoping chest to prevent the genocide of gray mobs.

I would be curious if the dropped "boosters" are going to be a pack of 15, or actually just a one card "booster".
And the last I heard from the beta, we have to buy something from the card store to unlock the ability to trade (and other features of the card game).People were still speculating if perhaps claiming a looted pack could count as a 'purchase', I guess we will have to see

I bet the people who are spending money are mainly the hardcore tcg crowd, rather than the casual player who is playing eq2 and for whom lon is just a nice bonus.I would bet money they are looking at the casual players who get mob drops as providing a network effect for the hardercore tcg crowd, making their own purchases more valuable since there will be far more people to play with.EDIT: added a wikipedia link

I was just on the LoN boards about it because I couldn't start a guild and it said I had to register (but not how I go about doing that). You "register" by buying at least 1 booster from their store. "Registering" allows you to access trading, create guilds, and play in their tourneys and stuff.$3.99 US isn't a whole lot, but man was a sneaky trick! lol

You could ask the guy who has 2 boosters on Naggy for 24p each how rare they are, LOL..I mean honestly, I figured they might be a bit of gold but 24p??? How much could I buy farmed plat for to pay for those 2 packs vs just spending the $2.99 in the store for them? If they rare enough to dictate 24p, over time (i understand this guy is just trying to be advantageous), then SOE did well and will make more in retail pack purchases from their store than plat sellers on the plat it takes to buy them ingame.24p, lol...

I think the broker costs will average out to 5 - 10 plat a booster pack unless they are *extremely* rare drops. That's just what I figure the average player will be willing to spend. A big question is how many people will be willing to sell them at all if they are into the card game vs how many people just think of the booster packs as cash drops? Personally, I would be willing to sell the booster packs initially at an inflated price and then go into buyer/claim mode when they get cheaper. If I can sell one booster pack for 20plat this week and turn around and buy 3 booster packs for the same amount in a couple weeks I can live with that =p

There's a problem with pricing them high though.Unless I'm mistaken, once you open a pack the cards can only be traded for other cards, thus making them worthless for anyone not interested in the game. Therefore, you can't price the packs high, because you don't know how rare the cards inside are. (once there's a decent flow of packs) I'm thinking that most people won't be willing to pay too much for a gamble, when a little farming gets it for free. If your whole thing is going for profit, the only way to figure out the exact worth of the pack is to open it, and then you can't sell it.

I dunno, they seem pretty rare to me. I mentored my wifes level 38 character today, killed non heroic blue and green mobs and got her an entire level with no vitality and no questing with no pack drops. I'm pretty sure the 1 in 300 quote was for eq1, in which there are no chests and all loot just drops on corpses.
Wouldn't the best way to "farm" them be to make a wizard, disable combat exp, give them adept 1 of their first nuke and blow up level 1 mobs? Or can packs not drop in newbie areas?

LoN... ability drops... WTG sony here is one more fine example of you you really dont give 2 cp about your game or who plays it.. already pvp isnt about skill.. not for 1 second is it about skill.. its about ganking soloers.. and ganking often.. you wont get rid of titles.. which is the number 1 reason why people run from pvp... now u give people abilities... and no u dont have to buy them.. but it sure helps so now its about he who spends more money will gank better today..

ImO.. this game is on its downfall.. and Sony isnt doing anything at all to help this.. Fix your game before you go off and add bone headed ideas like giving people abilities of any kind if they buy booster packs... and ya go ahead and give you sugar coated answer that any mob can drop this BS... I and lots of my friends are seriously considering leaving this game beacause of this.. FIX YOUR GAME...

Anyone else feel me? who is happy in pvp about mentoring..? who is happy about pvping anywhere other than t2 which is also almost pointless? make this game about skill not about anything other than skill.. anyone can run and zone hop to protect their precious title... or camp until some reusable ability comes up.. I thought the exact same thing Vae, I laughed when I saw the prices people were trying to charge. When these items are being legitimately sold for 3 dollars outside of the game...you can't have prices that high. I saw one for sale for 14 plat which was the most reasonable thus far. Things should settle down soon I would imagine.
DragonMaster2385

I would not say that this is ruining the game. I highly doubt people are actually paying 100 plat for a $3 booster pack. The prices will go down after the sellers realize that no one is buying. Whenever new items are added to a game, it becomes a seller's market. After they have been here for a while, it becomes a buyer's market. Check back in a month and you will see the price drop. Plat farmers are having fun now, but it won't last.

Fix your game before you go off and add bone headed ideas like giving people abilities of any kind if they buy booster packs... and ya go ahead and give you sugar coated answer that any mob can drop this BS...
Somewhat related question:

Do boosters always drop a certain ratio of rares/uncommons/commons? IE 1 rare, 3 uncommons, 11 commons, or something along those lines?

Do starters always drop a certain number of rares, or are all of them a static mirror image of one another?

Can either of these items drop an in-game item, or just boosters?

Oops.

OK I guess what I meant to ask is can both booster packs and starter decks contain an in-game redeemable item?

Also, does one "fighter" start deck for example differ at all in the cards it contains from another "fighter" starter deck? IE any randomization?

I haven't gotten a duplicate of a starter deck, and probably wouldn't open a duplicate - but I very much doubt that there is any randomization within and 1 of the 4 starter decks.

Starter Decks are premade. So if you get one fighter starter and then for some reason get a second one and open it up, it will have contained the same cards as the first fighter starter.Boosters are where the random/loot cards come from.As far as those prices.. I laughed my butt off when I seen them on my server. I cant believe how stupid some people are rofl.

Does a starter have a chance of having an in-game item or only boosters?

Only boosters. The starters are a premade set of 50 cards (minimum size for a deck) that can be used straight out of the box to play a game with. They are all the same, so if you want variety or loot cards you need to buy the boosters. (or hope boosters drop for you in game)
