View Full Version : /report command being abused and used
I think that the /report command should be removed from the game and only allow /petitions ive noticed alot of people in chat going ima report you for stealing my lewt and such this is childish ive been a victim of this type of abuse i pay good money to play this game like almost 50 bucks a month internet fee and game fee thats alot of money per month to fear that someone is going to report me for gathering their shinny that they wanted or killing the name before another person does who else has been /report falselyPS I personally think the spam filter is working great why do we still need /report its not like there isn't /petition.....

...

So... you are saying that we shouldn't be able to report people for abusing the EULA?

Petitions are for getting in game help. /bug is for reporting bugs, and /report is for abuse reporting... they all work well.

(I smell some troll... but I will still bite for now)

All it does is take a secure file of what you said and put it in a place where customer service can see it. So if I type /report Emoka - it will record your recent chat in a file. No one will even access that filen unless a /petition is accompanying it.

Additionally - a person can /report and /petition you a thousand times for "stealing" their node or shiny and SOE wont do a thing. Because SOE considers those items "contested" - meaning they are desgined for multiple people to compete for them. (However, it is considered standard courtesy on most servers to not harvest from a node someone else is working on - there are plenty and really no reason to do so.) So, instead of advocating the removal of a tool, relax. They cant hurt you.

Additionally - sooner or later the spammers will figure out how to circumvent the filter and , when they do - only by analyzing the report command will they be able to modify that filter for better screening.

To capture the text of a specific person, you would type /report Name. It doesn't do anything else except capture text in your chat window. That's it. All /reports shuold be accompanied with a /petition. In fact, when you send a GM a disupute or other disruption that occurs in chat (such as racial and sexual slurs) via /petition, the first thing they do is look for a /report regarding the dispute. If no /report was made, they actually comment that there is no /report on it. This happened to me on a PvP server where my fury was spammed with literally hundreds of /laugh /point emotes in the span of 3 seconds.

As for the /report spamm feature that pops up when you click on someone's name? That wonderful and lovely spam filter doesn't catch everything. Spammers are really quite creative when it comes to finding ways around the filter. I like that all I have to do now to report spam is click on their name with no 5 minute delay before I can report teh second spam tell.

People can try, but they can't make them abuseproof, at least not keep things practical. The best one can do is find the happy medium between being difficult to abuse and yet still practical to use.

Consider this, if someone does threaten to /report and /petition you, and you believe you did nothing wrong, tell them to feel free. Let a CS agent decide who's in the right. If you know you did nothing wrong, they come off looking like a goof for /petitioning you for nothing.

(If a CS agent replies, IMO in game service has improved..some. I at least here more good stories then I used to..but it still seems like canned, scripted replies that don't even quite address the issue still are pretty common..but I digress, and don't want to turn this into a CS agent bashing thread)
