I have heard arguments for not allowing you to change your level downward for reasons of farming by dialing to an exact level to make mobs green etc. Valid points.

What about designating a quest to mentor to? I could see this working like this -

Must be within the zone the quest (the one you are mentoring) is designated for

Can only desingate the quest for mentoring purposes 3 times (this resets for every 3 steps of the quest to allow for longer multi-stepped quests such as Lost Legend Of Lavastorm....ewwww)

If you kill a named NPC in the zone the quest can not be used as a designation again unless the named NPC was required as a step for the quest

Only mentor to active quests, no using completed ones

You gain xp at "mentored" level

If you achieve a level it is not reflected while mentoring in this fashion. (IE - if you are a level 56 toon working mentored to a level 25 quest and you gain enough XP to achieve level 57, while working in the mentored state you still remain a level 25)

Not all zones even have folks in them to mentor to and many of the old world quest have considerable camps in them. I was working through a lot of things in the Down Below > Vermin Snye >Crypt of Betrayal series over the weekend and had difficulty in finding people in those zones period much less ones to mentor. Its definitely more fun working on those quests with aggro in the zone.

By having your level changed to the level of the quest it could make those zones more fun, at least while you are working on quests in them.

Thoughts?

I always liked the idea of self mentoring to finish old quests. It seem to me that certain restrictions could be in place to keep farmers away. Like, no master chest drops and so forth. That way, we can go back and enjoy old content.

sounds like a great idea

This would allow people to mentor to any level they want to. All they need is to find a quest of that level and not complete it. Within a day of introduction, someone will have posted a list of easily attainable quests of all levels, or at least a few spread over each tier. It would sure beat having a buddy around to mentor to when doing old quests, but without further restrictions, you might as well just allow mentoring to any level, quest or no quest. That's just not a good idea./RS

What would be the intention of such a request? You can finish the quest even when it is grey. No need to mentor to experience the content

You could do it a couple of times and then nay, until you advance the quest at least 3 steps.

These zones cover levels 6-25'ish from what I remember. There is also an instance zone in the quest for COB which actually requires a group of high 20's to get through.

There are several book quests in those zones which are camps, kill 10 of this (only 3 spawn in the zone), repeat that several times, etc. Typically when working on these types of quest you can do other things in the zone, work on titles, harvest, other quests, hunt for named, etc. When these quests are grey and you are in dungeons those options dont exist (except titles if slaughtering greys is your thing). The questing was now waiting out the bordem but then - OMG, another player of the appropriate level entered the zone and I asked if I could mentor him while I was working on my quest and the major fun ensued. I was waiting for a repop when this random named spawned on top of me and I got my dirt nap papers. I ended up spending 4-5 hours in those zones, some of the time with the toon I was mentoring and helping on his quest, some of the time wandering around doing my thing. In the end I ended up with I think 6 new books for my house, 3 exquisit chest, 15 or so completed quest and about 10g (woot?) in vendor trash and brokered items. It was a blast!

I had looked for 2 hours for someone to mentor to before this person showed up and it was plain and simply boring. Playing with aggro in ANY zone and the chance for loot drops, good fights is just generally more fun.

It is getting more difficult in the lower zones to find toons to mentor to and seems such a waste of fun content when a change could be made to allow the "danger" elements to be introduced to any toon wanting to play that content.

By scaling to the level of the quest you are experiencing the content the devs intended the quest for. When you complete the quest you are returned to your normal level. You can then mentor to another quest you have in that level or go do something else.

Maybe its just me but playing grey content is not fun. I know some people like it for harvesting or collecting and thats fine but killing grey mobs is not exciting at all. Yes, I am sure some people would find a way to exploit such a change but how many people would use it for its intended use and benefit from it? We cant continue to hold back positive changes to the game out of fear that someone might exploit that change for personal benefit.
