<p>I've noticed that sometimes certain posters names are different from the name that is in the reply section, if that makes sense.  I just wondered why this is the case.</p><p>It gets a bit confusing when you don't know who to refer or reply to, the name showing in the forum or the name showing in the reply section.</p><p>Have I confused you enough. <img src="http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/images/smilies/2786c5c8e1a8be796fb2f726cca5a0fe.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" width="15" height="15" /></p>

<p>Ok, everyone has a forum name, in your case this is LightfootII, in my case this is Rokaab (that was the name of my EQ1 char)</p><p>Many people choose to use other persona's as their posting name though, the personas are charactername@servername, ie. in my case Rakk@Butcherblock. So when your reading posts you see the personas, however in the reply section it only appears to use the forum name rather than the persona name, possibly something was forgotten when the persona thing was implemented (or it was too tricky to do), I dont know. But yeah, I think its been like that since the persona thing was brought in, can be annoying yes.</p><p>Edit: and as you can also see, if you edit, it claimed to have been edited by the forum name, rather than the current persona name.</p>

It's annoying, especially for those of us who ill-chose a name, through no fault of our own. My forum name is the same as my main in WoW, in AO, in Horizons and AC2. Its also the same as my primary alt in EQ (I already knew my EQ's main had gone - I used it on my first, now lapsed, EQ2 account). Its nice to have a bit of continuity, with people who knew me from those games recognising the name in this one. Of course, I made the forum name before I made the ingame name... and it'd already gone. There is no ingame-Ansek that coincides to forum-Anesk. Had I known that, I would've registered here with my second choice of name - who is indeed my main ingame. Of course, as my main is guilded, I could just use that as a forum persona - but that kinda feels like distancing myself from things posted under the Ansek name because people wouldn't associate my ingame name with Ansek. With regards the use of persona on these boards, I think its probably intentional: by linking the posting persona name to an unchangeable forum name it prevents the situation whereby people can just log in alts to flame or abuse. Thanks to the way personae have been implemented, no one can hide behind a forum alt.

Your forum handle is not supposed to be the same as any of your characters in game.  That is why they let you then pick the persona you wish to use under My Profile.  My forum name is not <a href="mailto:Aeviel@Venekor" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Aeviel@Venekor</a>, that is the persona I have chosen to display, since I am better known on that server that way.  My forum handle name is completely different.

<p>Thank you all, that's cleared it up.</p><p>So I could change my personna to <a href="mailto:'Rilia@Runnyeye'" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">'Rilia@Runnyeye'</a>, but I think that would cause confusion now after all this time.  People can see who I am by my sig anyway. <img src="http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/images/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" width="15" height="15" /></p>
