Ok, I'm reading vendor poisons and some of the descriptions confuse me. Example, "inflicts 78 poison dmg on target instantly and every 6 seconds". "The line below says, inflicts 18 damage on target." Is the 18 damage some sort of separate generic damage, not poison damage?

Then there's another poison that says inflicts 57 POISON damage on target instantly and every 6 seconds, then below it says, inflicts 46 POISON damage. [Removed for Content]? Which is it? If both, why not add the two together instead of this confusing crap? Thanks for any help you may have to give.

I think vendor poisons still follow an old system. Back in ye olde days poisons had an instant up front damage followed by a DoT. Different poisons had different values, for example there were high up front damage and low DoT or there was low direct damage and high DoT.Are you sure the "instantly" is in the description? The first tick should be the additional line with 46 or 18 damage followed by the DoT every 6 seconds, starting at the sixth second.

Yes, I kept checking in game to make sure I had the wording right via alt/enter. It's confusing, I don't know which poison to use. I want the most upfront damage (instant). Player made poisons suck, so I'm going with vendor made. At least all the ones I can make with my lvl 30 something alchemist do.

Look for mastercrafted ones on the broker if you cant make them yourself yet. Youll be gimping your dps if you run with vender poisons. I prefer grandmaster caustics over the hemotoxins myself but then as a swashy i have a very high proc rate and i would be proccing a fresh proc long before the hemotoxin proc ran off so it makes more sense for me to use a one time DD caustic. The very very best poisons in game are the EH ones player made from seeds that drop in EH. My guild just got access to these and i am looking forward to wha ti make out raidbuffed and mob raid debuffed as over 2k a proc with my 9.9 proc rate. You did not mention what level you are or your playstyle group or solo or raider. So ill go off assumming your lvl 70.These are the best combos to use imo.Solo: grandmaster vitality breach (DD+heal)+stupefying(none epic stun)+enfeeble(str and melle skills debuff)grouping: caustic your pick exceptional or grandmaster (grandmasters can get expenisve currently 2g a vial on my server)+stupefying+enfeeble(if tank is getting hit hard) or gracelessness(if higher con mobs and group is having trouble hitting. agi and defense debuff).raiding: I would only run grandmasters during a raid caustic+ turgur( attack speed debuff) if your having agro issues change this out to ignorant bliss+ your choice of debuffers. You really should check with the other scouts on the raids and try not to run the same debufs since they dont stack. but the most common i have seen use and what we run are the gracelessness and enfeeble ones. You may want to change the caustics to hemo toxins if your a low proc rate scout class I been told say for assasins that hemotoxins do better. Maybe one of them can chime in here with there prospective on that matter. As a swashy i set at 7.2 times a min proc rate solo thats with the 6% trigger increase from my swashy line. Do not over look the power of poisons as the raid parser i see what they do every raid for all of our scouts for a zone poisons run well over 10% of there total dps for a zone. If you cant afford to run grandmaster/mastercrafted poison its still IMO that player made ones are better than the vender ones and are dirt cheap off the broker or since your making a alch yourself just grind those out.
If he thinks vendor poisons are better then player made I'd wager he's not lvl 70. <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

If you're planning on using these in a group environment, get caustic, (Instant effects, won't be cancelled by another scout's use of the same poison). Stock up on mental and vitality breach poisons as well. They come in handy.

At level 30 (the level the OP mentioned he is) and at any level, actually, the NPC sold poisons -are- better than Handcrafted (crafted from common harvests and essential recipes) poisons of the same level range, but only in their total potential damage. However, Mastercrafted (crafted using dusts from making adept IIIs and recipes from advanced books) damage poisons -are- better than NPC sold. In addition, alchemists can make other poison types (debuffs and 'effects'). These other types can be used -with- damage poisons. However, at level 30 (the OP's level) only one of the other types can be made, the poison debuff (Warding Ebb). Until level 50+ and 60+ (in someone's stupid idea of 'progression') not all poison types can be crafted. For most of the lower levels, only damage poisons are available with no in-game information of other types even existing.

You can have 3 poisons applied at the same time (Red, Blue, & Purple/Pink). All vender poisons, eventhough they are different colored, are considered "Red" poisons. And yes, the lower-tiered Vender purchased poisons are better than the hand-crafted ones (most) but are more expensive. The lower-tiered Mastercrafted poisons are usually cheaper than the vender purchased ones, and again, the vender purchased ones only count as ONE type of poison (Red).
