<p>I know I know everquest doesn't play well on a laptop. I have two computers at home the my husband and myself play on but my husband is in the hospital and will not be out any time soon. I wanted to get him a laptop so he could surf the web and play some eq so he doesn't go nuts. I don't have a lot of money to spend on one and it doesn't have to be pretty. Just something he can log in and craft or run around norrath. I was looking at some of the laptops they have on sale at best buy, etc. Can you guys give me some advice on which one would be the best to get? I don't know much about laptops.</p><p>Here are some I was looking at</p><p><a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Toshiba-Satellite-15-4-Widescreen-Notebook-PC-A215-S4697/sem/rpsm/oid/185073/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do#tabs" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Tosh...tDetail.do#tabs</a></p><p><a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=186484&cm_keycode=85" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/prod...4&cm_keycode=85</a></p><p><a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=185212&cm_keycode=85" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/prod...2&cm_keycode=85</a></p><p><a href="http://bestbuy.shoplocal.com/bestbuy/default.aspx?action=detail&flashbrowse=y&storeid=2413190&rapid" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://bestbuy.shoplocal.com/bestbu...d=2413190&rapid</a>=</p>

Hi there...I saw your post while digging for a resolution to my sound problems in game on my desktop. Since I play on a laptop also and since I saw no one answered, at least here (and PM on SOE's forums are awful IMO) I thought I'd reply.I can't address your choices since really, I'm not up on laptops really. I'll just tell you what I have and how it plays for me.About year ago I bought a HP laptop at Sam's Club. It's a dv9000 and I paid $1395.00 for it. It's a 17" widescreen and that was part of why it was more than those with a smaller screen. However, I feel it was well worth it as I have no problems with the display. It has an AMD Turion TL 56 dual core processor, which was the lowest processor I'd accept at that time. It also has a nVidia GoForce 7600 with 256MB of video ram. This laptop has a built in web cam (1.3) and microphone that I've found works great when talking with friends on something like Yahoo Msgr., 4 USB slots which come in handy and a 9 card reader which is nice. Also has a Firewire port that I've never used. It has a dual layer Lightscribe DVD/CD burner, two 200GB hard drives (a bit overkill since it's not my main computer but I've found that I have packed a LOT of stuff on it including games and never worry about space) and 2GB of RAM. The memory was important to me as was the video. I'd not try to game on a laptop without this video, which was my minimum, and at least 1GB of RAM, preferrably 2 since I use that in my desktop and am very happy with it. It has built in wireless and 1GHZ ethernet capability. I use both depending on where I'm at in the house with the laptop. I'd never had a HP computer before and frankly was a bit leery. My laptops in the past have been either Toshiba, which I love, or Dell, which were OK but not nearly as nice as my Toshiba laptops. However, this laptop is used CONSTANTLY and has run fine. I had one problem with it that I honestly believe was my own darn fault, I neglected to unplug it when a storm came through and it got toasted. I contacted HP and the NEXT day a shipping box arrived. I packed it up, called FedEx at the number provided and they came back the next day and picked it up. 6 days later I had my computer back and all has been great since then. My hard drives were fine and they sent them back intact but I was concerned that I'd lose some photos I'd not backed up yet (of my then 88 year old Dad) and HP helped me find a way to get them off the drive before I sent it to them. It was by far the best experience I ever had with computer service and the problem was my own fault! Since I'm religious about unplugging everything else in the house (I'm a ham radio operator) this oversight has been corrected. If I shut the laptop off I unplug it. Period.Sure this setup is not the ultimate in laptop gaming. But for the price at the time it gave me what I needed, a way to play my game without sitting at my desktop, at a price I could afford. Maybe someday I'll have enough to throw a lot at a high end gaming laptop but until that fantasy day I'm happy with what I have. Good luck to you and if you've questions for me please either post here (I'll try to remember to check back for a few days) or send me a PM. Or if you're on the AB server you can send me in game mail to the name I'm using here.Hope this helps some and have fun.
