I did a search and didnt find this idea anywhere so here goes.

Have you ever had a group where the only tank you could find was 4 levels below you? Or the healer was just a few levels short of doing the job? So the group ends up being a bust? Ive seen it happen often enough. Now i know this isnt a huge problem, but if there was a way we could widen the level gap for grouping i think it would greatly improve the pre-70 gameplay.

My idea is a kind of sidekicking, kind of like what City of Heroes has, but not quite as broad. That concept fits alot better in teh superhero wold than it would in the fantasy world. But i belive giving a 10 level limit i think would be a good idea. Where you have to be within 10 levels of the guy doing the reverse mentoring. I can see 10 level cushin being more than enough to open up the grouping opportunities. This i think would help with the lack of alot of groups at the lower to mid levels of the game and would probably even help at the 60+ game too.

Anybody think this would work or not work? Thanks in advance for any replies or refinements to my idea. Now i doubt the devs are gonna read this and be wowed, but i felt like putting the idea out there anyway

This has been discussed before, and City of Heroes has been used as an example, and the idea has been roundly criticized by the user community.

The mentoring system as it currently stands is perfectly reasonable and fair. Mentoring up is just not a good idea on so many levels.

It works in CoX because there is no loot system there, so to speak, and when a mob dies, there's a chance that everyone will get a power upgrade or an inspiration. They did have it in pre-NGE SWG as well. I haven't played since before then so I don't know if it's still possible. But it was a nice way for my boyfriend and I who were newbies to join our level 80 friends and actually be able to contribute, especially since I chose a doctor and they were more heavy on offensive rather than healers. The larger groups both games allow (or did for SWG, no idea now) were kind of nice, too. It was only up to 8 or so, but the couple of extra slots meant that people were left out less often.

I would be perfectly happy having the ability to "level up" to other people in the group even if it meant losing any ability at looting usable items.

I understand what your saying about the loot, thats part of why i suggested a level limit, you still need to be reasonably close to the person thats reverse mentoring you. Im not saying a level 20 should group with a 60, thats silly because even with the "tips" from the higher level guy, a level 20 would still get slaughtered by the big bad [Removed for Content]'s of the world. But 5 or 10 levels a few tips could go a long way.

I'd prefer this. As it is, mentoring is just an invite to have yourself murdered by people who you cannot attack. Higher level mentoring would at least allow you to attack the people who're attacking you, because you wouldn't be vastly more powerful than a real level 70 like you are when mentoring down.

As I said before, this is a GAME, and this mechanic would only make the game easier to enjoy, so WHY NOT add it?Also this mechanic is NEEDED for players who have alot of friends(some who play more then the others) who are all split up in level and want to play together. If it is exploit free, I'm all for a "Sidekick" system. Hmph I still play COH/COV more then EQ2 because of this.
