I had hoped that with the advent of /report that this would help with the constant spamming from these slime bags that run the farming and power leveling sites but instead all that has come of this is now when we get one its in the form of a notification that Im getting a spam message. If SOE is trying to eliminate the farmers and power levelers then isnt it key that we be able to report them so that the accounts can be banned? Ok I am going to head off this next thought so why not make it so that trial accounts cant send private messages at all period. Another thought is that an internal filter can be set up and updated on a weekly basis to look for specific words such as a website or powerleveling or selling plat, this would be best effective if variations of powerleveling and selling plat and getting across a website address such as W w W dot lEt ME ST3a! Y0U4 m0N3y D0T qom and put in known websites into the filter.

Also give us the option to place the spammers onto ignore, Im seeing the same ones over and over and over again, its a pain in the back side to have to try and type out the jumbled names that they come up with when it would be easier to right click the name and select ignore.

From what I have read on the forums there is a mechanism that allows you to auto-block spam. I have not done so myself (and I keep meaning to), so I couldn't tell you how to do it.

If I remember correctly, I right clicked the chat, selected chat options and unchecked the "spam". No more spam tells, but of course that doesn't really mean they are gone. And boy, do they come up with interesting ways of spelling to avoid the filter!

I have a question..How can they determine what is a spam message and what isn't?

Part of it has to do with the content of the message. They won't tell us the exact process for obvious reasons, but it has-in part-to do with what's being said. I suspect there are other factors out there and can think of a few I would use.

Only thing is, profanity is probably not made up by new words every day - maybe week....

This was explained by Zol over in the "In Testing" forums, under the spam thread he started, but...

When a "spam" tell is flagged as spam and you see the notification of spam show up, the tell has already been reported in the background. In other words, you don't need to report that person again--they were flagged and reported when their tell was detected as spam by the server. A GM takes care of those without any further intervention on your end. If a tell comes in that is spam but wasn't caught by the filter, left click the person's name and do the report as spam. At that point, that person is reported and their account flagged to be looked at. Not long after (according to the devs), that person's spam won't get through anymore.

Basically, the filter is learning in real time depending on tells that get reported. Those reports are checked by a human being (to prevent random stuff being added to the filter, I assume), but so far it's been largely successful. I've been routinely checking the notifications that roll in, and have yet to find one that isn't actual spam. I also haven't gotten any spam that hasn't been caught by the filter. I'll be switching the "spam" channel off completely before long, thus completely doing away with spam for me. That can be done by right-clicking the chat box where your spam notifications are showing up, and unchecking the "Spam" box in the list there. After that, you won't even get the notifications anymore, but the spammers will be reported without you having to even know they're there.
