So the mount thing in EQ2 is a little different then what I am used to. When should I be buying a mount as a newbie? I have been gathering like a madman but the upgrades and gear are eating up all my funds so that the 2.45pl seems to be a very lofty goal. I am assuming at some point that will be come a drop in the bucket, I am just wondering what level most people are when they get a mount?

Depends on your needs. Joining a guild will help defray the cost, but many guilds are wary of people joining just to get guild status items/housing/equipment and leaving as soon as they complete their purchases. Generally there's a waiting period and minimum Guild status criteria to be met before being allowed to purchase said items, plus mounts cost a nice chunk of status.

On the money subject, crafting can generate some coin when using rares. As far as when it's necessary to actually purchase a mount .... depends on how fast you want to get from point A to point B.

I was just looking and it seems that guild status drops the price alot. I think I am starting to feel it a bit as Warlocks dont get any movement speed buffs. Should get my portals soon so hopefully that breaks it up a bit.

I'd also appreciate an answer on this question. Is it reasonable to start looking to purchase a mount (regardless of guild affiliation) at level 30? 50? What's a good generalization for this? (I'm Templar class, but I play other Alts; some of them need more movement than others)...

I'd like a horse because they look good... *grin*

Mounts are expensive because it is considered an item you got once you were around 30's. In Everquest 1 mounts were so expensive and hard to get that unless you were near level cap you couldn't afford it (or unless rich by other means). So with Everquest II they made mounts more accessible to players. I believe the original grand design for the game was that you would start out learning the game until about level 12 or 13 where you would do your first dungeons in Blackburrow and Wailing Caves. Then you would progress to Stormhold and Fallen Gate. Next would come some outdoor zones and then Zek. And on to the higher end content. By the time you were heading to Zek you would buy a horse and have your character starting to be customized. Everything seems tiered this way from houses to mounts. This also made more sense with the original game design where you picked your archetype on the island, then up through level 20 picked your class. And you also had to do quests to access the main city. They have opened things up much more since launch. However much of the original plan is still there.

I just found Antonica exhuastingly huge after Qeynos with lots of open space, and a horse would be easier to get around on...(kinda like Link's horse in Occarina of Time or Majora's Mask; not a necessity, but you don't have to walk if you don't want to.)

Hello, new to eq2 here as well.

I was looking at the mount vendor in neriak and all his wonderful mounts when I noticed something. The duriation of the mounts or something was 1 day. Does that mean you pay(can't remember the prices exactly) 6pp for a mount that only lasts 1 day?

Not at all. Mounts work as a spell effect, and it lasts for 24 hours. So say it's been up for 20 minutes, and you die. Re-cast your horse using the whistle and it's still 24 hours.

My advice would be, especially for a fiurst character, to save your coin to spend on more usefull items such as armour/spell upgrades etc...If you can survive to the late 40's, you can do the carpet quests, and get yourself a nice free 40% magic carpet

Don't forget you can buy sow totems for 24% run speed at I think level 25?And classes with sow can cast it on you even if you aren't grouped. I personally have never minded casting sow on someone passing by. Though you'd be much better off getting the 45% 30 min duration warden sow if you have to head to a specific spot to quest or grind.

Winternacht wrote:
Should get my portals soon so hopefully that breaks it up a bit.
Warlocks get portals? I wasn't aware of this. *wonders other benefits he's been ignorant on his own Warlock*

Once you hit the 30's the coin starts to get a little better, Zek is a good place to go and quest. Then just sell everything that isn't trash on the broker, even the trash loot that is sold to the vendor is better.

I have a level 37 troubador that has done alot of questing and group instances when possible and has earned 25 plat so far from broker (and I don't sell rares, I'm a crafter), you will make a lot more coin soloing then if in a group because of course you get all the loot.

I remember getting Elwin her first horse and how excited she was.. lol

It wasn't until she started going to Enchanted Lands that she really started saving the coin to put towards it.

Becoming a ummmm... Hunter of Fairies got me most of that coin along with hellishly bad faction with the winged freaks. I remember how rich I thought I was every time she headed home and sold her bottles of fairy blood.

Work on your status with writs and hq's.. start or keep up a trade and you'll be well on your way to having a very cool horse... one day.

Harvest harvest harvest! may well be boring but selling rares and even raws can bring in the money too and will massively help with your trade.

Good luck and have fun

Don't forget -- with a Warden or Ranger you can get to 45/46% by level 15 (8-11 AA's). 55/56% with a Fae or Arasai. You'll be running past most mounted characters yelling something appropriate.

My advice is to find collectiblrs ...those sometimes go for quite a bit hehe
