View Full Version : Something that has really been bothering me about monks

OK, so I know everyone has a complaint about our class. But something that has really been getting at me about monks but I have never seen feedback on is dmg shield/stun shield. I understand the need to make raid mobs unique and excitin and that a dmg shield can be removed. But lets say for example the raid mobs (statues) in MMIS, if the shield is on monks are hitting so frequently our health drops like a brick. Yeah it is ok that it can be removed but it really seems unfair to us that we get hit so bad by this. How about monks being immune to this skill, I think that would be a nice step. Which brings me to the stun shield which is what really pisses me off. In New Tunaria Throneroom these statues basically keep me permastunned the whole fight and it really takes the enjoyment out of raiding. I have a great healer and he's like [Removed for Content] I can spam the cure on you the whole fight and everytime you will be stunned, not fun for him either. Were these changes put into play without considering a monk? Am I really expected to have my dps drop 1k because I don't have any high hitting CA's and every other class does and can at least cycle them between stuns? Not to mention it makes our combo skill useless. I watch the parse and nobody gets hit by this effect as bad as us. Please rethink this effect and how it hurts our class specifically and please don't have a whole new expansion filled with these effects. Thanks.

/agree those statues makes casual guilds (4 raids/week) dont want to raid ToNT... less loots...4 nameds but only 2 chests...not worth for the time

For the statues in MMIS, monks have Outward Calm to protect us from the damage. Also using a slow 2-hander on these makes a huge difference. Also with any other healer beyond inquisitor, I can go full out on these with my monk. Inquisitor is the only healer whose heals dont touch the damage shield (exept for the direct heals). Druids have group regen, shamans have group wards and even templar has a group ward for magical damage. Just time your own ward correctly and you wont be taking too much damage.Same for the statues in the throne room, use a slow 2-hander. You will get stunned occasionally but that is just the encounter has been designed, everyone damaging them will get stunned. This particular problem is definitely not monk-only. Nor even brawler-only.

all melee deal with this. couple swash friends of mine get it worse. we often pull more than one of those and hurricane chews them up. i use the pvp baton and a heal proc item on those. along with OC and heal i put up some impressive heal numbers. may sound dumb, but that's all health that some healer didn't have to replenish.

give monks an immunity to damage shields ? well, then they'd hafta give it to swash. and brig. and assass. and bruiser. guardian/zerk can dw and crank up haste too, so better give it to them. oh, and summoner pets. you'd be opening a big ol can of worms with damage shield immunity.

Simple - if your health is taking a beating, stop autoattack, move out of autoattack range until you get healed or heal yourself!. It's the same with Vilucidae in LoA and it's not just monks that suffer - in a raid many classes will be within a few % real haste of monks.
