Hi,

I wonder why there is still no multicore support for EQ2, also is it right that shadows are still rendered by the cpu? (and therefore using core #0)Imho there should be an update soon to "solve" or improve the current situation. Maybe with the new expansion?

I hope I don't fall on deaf ears

EQ2 supports dualcore, but there's a difference between supporting a technology and actually using the technology.I wouldn't be surprised if this involved a rewrite of the code. So I wouldn't wait for it.

Yes, with "support" I mean EQ2 should utilize more than one core.I do not "wait" for it but it would be nice because I still can't switch on building-shadows without major performance impact (which makes it useless), I assume this is because shadows are still rendered with raw cpu power.

Yes of course they would have to rewrite at least parts of the source, but why not? The game constantly evolves (in gameplay) so why not also in tech?I think (and I'm not a programmer, so I can only bet) an easy way to involve more cores is to swap e.g. shadow rendering or other major calculations to another core.I can't believe that's not possible to do without major expenses, else this game will _never_ run smooth with all graphical options switched on.

Oh well ... maybe a tech could give some infos!?

Multi-Core is not a new technology, it has been around since the mid-90's, as far as workstation applications go, the total number of true parallel processing applications are sparse - in the gaming world it is even less.

There are a number of threads on this exact subject on the forum, there are also responses in them from the techs

I asked this question at the Fan Faire in Vegas a couple of weeks ago.I was told that this is not as simple as "flipping a programming switch" because of the general complexity of code for a game such as EQ2, but it is in the process of being worked on.They said that we need to be patient about this and that better multi-core support will happen, but not anytime soon.BTW, they also said that G15 Keyboard Display support is in the future as well -- again, no time frame was given.T
