I recently decided to give EQ2 another try after 2 1/2 years. I now have myself a pretty good computer and i expected no problems...i was wrong:    Intel duo 2.4ghz    2gb 800mhz ram    EVGA GeForce 8800GTXand regrettably Vista Home Prem.Shortly after i get in to the game the screen goes what appears to be blank, but if i move my mouse around, changing the view, some times i can make out some shapes, maybe even the sun or a moon. Most importantly though, i cant see my character or anything around me and i can not play at all. If i minimize the window and bring it back up however, everything comes back...for about5 seconds. It seems that when i tried to actually kill something, combat made it worse. It was almost immediately after i resized the window that it went blank again. It does it some times on the character select screen as well, though nowhere near as frequent. I have tried downloading vista updates and graphics drivers and nothing seems to fix it. I played around in the nVidia control panel and i think i actually made it worse. Ive tried Ultra High Performance and Ultra High Quality...all the same. Can someone please tell me what i need to do to fix this!?!?

This seems like an issue with either heat, or a damaged video card &/or RAM.  This could also be an issue with those particular areas of the game having damaged video data files.Your system should be more than capable of using the game at those settings, so lets try something.Try to make a new character.  Try to log into multiple places when you make them, like Qeynos, Freeport, Kelithin, and Neriak (the last 2 if you have the expansion).  Attempt as best as you can to move around the citys zones, and see if the problem continues.  If it does, then you probabbly do not have a damaged video data file(s).There are other people on these forums that are much more capable than I am with sorting through the tweeks of video settings & voltages as necessary.  Be sure to check this post frequently, and they will come out from whre they are hiding.  They dont pass up the opportunity to share the knowledge.  <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY<img src=" width="15" height="15" />A few questions though before they show :Did you build your computer? What is your processors temprature during heavy system load, and if measureable, your video card?If you built your computer, did you buy or recieve your video card from a retail store, or somewhere else? What version of BIOS do you have, and what motherboard do you own?  (We can get that info from a "DXDiag" post from you if you are unsure of where to check for that)Any video card above 55 C / 150 F is going to start to become unstable.  If your processor is approaching that temprature as well, then you may start to have issues processing textures. If you built your system, be sure that you are following the positive or negative flow directions for air flow design, and that you have enough fans running if you are running air cooling.  That info is somewhere on the net, a good 'ol "Google 'o Knowledge" search should pull that up.For liquid cooling, you will need sufficent pressure with your cooling blocks to maintain adaqute thermal transfers.  Check with any manuals that came with any cooling blocks, if this applys to you, and be sure that they are "snug" and not "tight".Like I stated above in the questionare, we will need your DXDiag information to rule out other possibilites.  Check with other posts on the tech help questions forums on how to do this, and post a few times if you run out of room._Thanks man,Karatta

Thank you very much for the reply. I have tried taking my main character around some...I've had him in Lavastorm, Enchanted Lands and Nektulos. I did make a new character and he is still on the Island of Refuge. Every zone i go to, the same thing happens. I will try and get a character to a main city and see what happens, but i honestly feel as though it will be the same thing. I did build this computer on my own and had nothing but problems at the beginning with Vista. Went back to XP and everything was perfect. I recently decided to try Vista again and it seems to be working...at least im not getting BSoD's any more. This is the first issue i have had since trying it again. I can check on the CPU and GPU temps a little later and will report back here with what i come up with. Every part of this computer was purchased in a store and my motherboard is an EVGA nvidia 680i. I will post the DXDiag at the end of this to show more details including BIOS.According to the nvidia monitor i just brought up, my system right now, just web browsing:       CPU: 51C       GPU: 55CThe case i bought for this computer came with 4 pre installed fans and i have them all set on high. Im not sure how much cooler i could get this thing without going and buying a liquid cooling set-up. Again i appreciate the reply and will be checking back frequently. I need to leave for a couple hours, but when i get back i will play with things some and see what the temps get up to and post those.DXDiag:------------------System Information------------------Time I got back on in Qeynos and things were a bit different, but still unplayable. Now i have huge fish on my screen and it looks like im on a tunnel...or under the city and sometimes like im IN the walls. I got some screenshots taken which i may post later. My other character over in enchanted lands still has the same grey screen. I checked the temperatures while i was viewing this nonsense and my CPU was at 59C and the GPU at 65C. I am going to completely wipe the game and reinstall. If that doesnt work, im gonna check my ram by removing one stick and trying it, then the other too see if my ram may be bad. After that, if all else fails, im RMA'ing my GPU unless someone has a better idea.
