I know other games have special newbie chat rooms in game that new players are put into automatically and some games allow other players to flag themselves as "newbie guides" which puts them in that channel so they can answer questions and generally provide help. I am wondering if EQ 2 needs something like this. I am a level 70 and enjoy helping new players. I think its fun because new players are just so happy when they're doing their first group content. Most are timid or shy to group but once they get in one they have a blast and its nice to be able to give advice to someone who really wants all the advice they can get. It can be confusing to learn your class with all the spells and abilities available to each class.I think having newbie guides would allow us to keep more players. Maybe get more newbies in meaningful group experiences, teaching them the core mechanics. Hopefully allowing them to see the deeper, fun aspects of the game that many new players don't play long enough to see. Its such a shame that we lose players because they feel combat is just mad button mashing for example. I see that mentioned a lot and it really just means the person doesn't know how to properly play their spells in proper order and when is a good time to use some spells. Helping new players is really important in my opinion. All guilds need fresh blood to keep going for one. Helping someone out the week they started and eventually raiding with them at 70 feels great. I think it builds some of the best friendships. So do the new players out there feel there should be a newbie guide program put in game?

They have a universal channel for every tier of levels that you are automatically logged into when you reach the requirements, not to mention alignment-specific city, crafting and class channels.

There exists a newbie channel. The problem is, there is no guide on how to use it. <img src="http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/images/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" width="15" height="15" />

I guess it depends on time of day as well as the server you are on, but alot of the channels at times become a whine/[Removed for Content] contest/flame fest. I try my best to help with questions when I see them asked though.

I play on Antonia Bayle, and people have always been helpful when others ask questions in the channels.

<p>A guide program exists already in-game: <a href="https://guide.everquest.com/guideapp/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">https://guide.everquest.com/guideapp/</a></p><p>I'm sure the more people involved in it the better.</p><p>SC</p>

As far as the AB server, I have had the pleasure of talking to a few people from there and they are indeed very nice - It makes me wish I had rolled on that server instead of my own =/

I've been interested in joining the guide programme for a while, but the website says there is a BIG waiting list and always LOTS of people wanting to be guides, however since launch I can count the number of times on one hand that I've seen a guide in EQ2."Due to the tremendous number of applications we receive, only those who successfully qualify will be contacted. It may, however, take several weeks for your application to be reviewed, so please be patient."The website hasn't been updated in years, does anyone know if it's still even current?? (It has pictures from EQ1)The test you also have to go through to be a guide is full of questions about EQ1, which I played for all of 2 months 8 years ago, so I can't see how that's relevant to being a guide in EQ2.It would be nice if there was a much more accessable guide system in EQ2, there basically isn't one currently. I would quite like to put in a few hours a week helping new players.

On most servers, the 1-9 channel serves as general chat channel W@hen someone has a question, they many times ask here,. However if you don't know how to talk in this channel , the say and ooc chats options are easy to get.

Don't think we really need another global chat channel. The level channels should be sufficient. What I do agree on is the "helper" tag. There may be some there that don't like to talk in global channels for a simple question, or maybe someone need some tip on a specific class. A helper tag could be useful in that aspect, especial if it is possible to do a "/who helper" or "/who helper warden" to get a list with players that may help them <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

<p>For new players reading this:</p><p>r-click on your chat window, select Chat Options, and turn on all the channels available to you.</p><p>Helpful people watch 1-9 and the help or newbie channel. There's always a few people in their class channels and I've had some good discussions there. I also turn on my racial channel but have maybe once seen anyone there, but hey, it doesn't cost me anything to have it turned on, so I do.</p><p>For experienced players:</p><p>What I've seen a lot of lately is people talking about turning OFF their 1-9 and help or newbie channels. They also want an option for ignoring tells from players based on level ranges to get rid of the spam messages.</p><p>I answer questions in chat channels and occassionally get a tell from someone wanting more info on their question. I ignore the spam so that I can help the newbs on my server enjoy the game enough to maybe stick around a bit.</p>

That's the channel 1-9 levels. I kept having to leave the danged thing, leaving me open to searching /ooc for help when needed.
