Collection quest issue

Exactly like the topic says. I'm currently in the Queens Colony portion at the begining of the game (i've played many times before, this is just a new character).I cannot get any collection items i find to update the journal for the collection quests. I've tried clicking on the name in the chat screen AND examining the item, both of which go to the journal for the collection quests, but with the item in the filter box, no collection list shows up for me to push "add".

as a matter of fact, it's not just that they aren't giving me the ability to add what i don't already have, I also cannot look at my current collection quests in progress at all. the text in the journal says how many i've discovered, but I have no way of actually viewing them. the space where they're supposed to show is blank

this might seem like a dumb question, but are you using a custom UI at all? if so, try the default ui using the >/load_ui default< command, without the >< of course.
