when someone betrays are they restricted to the level 20 tree? IE. swash can only become a brigand? or can he become an assassin?

All classes are restricted to their trees, so Swashy can only become Brigand, Ranger will become Assassin. The only classes that are not forced to change subclass when your alignment changes are Bards, Druids, Sorcerers and Warriors. These will be offered the choice to change.

- Some classes are available to any alignment. When these classes betray, therefore, there is no forced switching of class. These classes are:

Berserker

Guardian

Fury

Warden

Dirge

Troubador

All other classes are alignment-based. When a character of one of these classes betrays, they are forcibly switched to the corresponding class: Bruiser <-> Monk Paladin <-> Shadowknight Coercer <-> Illusionist Conjurer <-> Necromancer Inquisitor <-> Templar Defiler <-> Mystic Assassin <-> Ranger Brigand <-> Swashbuckler
