View Full Version : Is Mystic CA AA damage based off of STR or INT?
I've tried search the forums here for a complete answer for this subject. The reason why I ask this question is because I did a little test. I removed my 2h melee weapon and tried out my Chilling Strike on a mob and I do the same damage with that attack as I do with a weapon equiped. I also equipped a 1h melee weapon. Same damage. Then I tried removing gear and such to get rid of STR and so on. Just about the same damage with that CA attack. I am specc'd with 100% melee crits and all the CA AA's maxed except the AoE one. Here's the big question. Are the CA AA spell attacks that are converted into a melee attack based off of INT and not STR? Since it's technically a spell but used at melee range. I really don't want to go out and buy a ton of INT gear to try this theory out. I figure someone else has tried it.Now I know the melee weapon damage will definatly vary on the auto attack swings depending on what I have equipped. But unequipping the melee weapons seems to have no effect on the CA AA attack.Any ideas? Thanks!

As far as I learned, those can make melee, crushing, piercing or slashing damages are STR-based.those can make magical, divine, mental, disease, poison, fire or ice damages are INT-based.

Circle of the AncientsBased on STRGlacial StrikeCold Damage portion :INTMelee Damage portion :STRFeverish StrikeDOT portion: INTNight Blood and Shadowfolk specific DOT portion :INTInitial hit based on STRChilling StrikeBased on STRThe easiest way I think to test this is to examine the CA with turn Ursine Augur on and then take it off and compareAlso you might be interested to know the six item effect from out Legendary armor increases the damage from the INT based parts of our CA's.
Thank you VERY much for you help!

You are correct that the 100% critical AA will cause the DOT portion of the CA to crit as well. Hopefully this is working as intended and not a bug

Some shadowknight CAs work the same way. STR increases the damage of the initial hit, INT increases the DoT portion, and if the initial hit is a crit, the DoT portion crits as well.

I wonder if spell dmg + adornments will enhance the DOT portion of CAs since they are affected by INT.Has anyone tested this to be true?

havent tested, but since INT raised the dmg they are supposed to be spells... thus, adorns will raise their dmg. However, the dmg increase is most surely normalized against something (between ticks etc... yadda, but you prolly knew this already...)++Xan

I have not parsed it, but there was no visual (description) change when adding a Cold damage adornment to my symbol, however Bolt of Energy and Symmetry effect do appear to affect the DoT portion of the attacks. Granted as said it is normalized and thusly isn't a major improvement, but it's something.

They are STR based, its the same for warden too, i tested it out using both Str and Int based gear and while the int didnt boost the damage the STR did.
