My fiance is currently playing up a monk, and as we duo I made a mystic. I also have a fairly low level templar who I enjoy a lot, but I was advised that the templar would not at all be a good healer for the monk. I'm going to at least play the mystic up to my templar's level to get a feel for it... but in the case that I prefer the templar...

How big will the difference be between a templar/monk duo and a mystic/monk duo? Also are there any things I should know in order for either duo to be especially successful?

I hope it's ok that I asked here, I considered asking on the mystic or templar forums, but then I thought you all might actually have more input

Thanks!

In my opinion there is a big difference between templar/monk duo and a mystic/monk duo. It will be much easier for the mystic to keep your fiance alive for two reasons--one is that wards are more effective on monks than the reactive heals of a templar, and the other is that mystics have good defensive debuffs. Because brawlers are avoidance tanks with high avoidance and low mitigation, you will get hit infrequently for large amounts of damage. The nature of reactive templar heals makes them less effective when you take large hits of less frequent damage. Wards on the other hand matter not whether you take the damage in big chunks of infrequent damage or frequent chunks of small damage. On the 2nd factor, debuffs, mystics have attack speed and dps debuffs that will lessen the damage taken by the tank and melee skill debuffs that will cause the enemy to miss more often. These two factors mean that you will be able to defeat more difficult encounters since generally it boils down to whether or not you can keep the tank up consistently. On the other hand, templars have a moderately effective physical mitigation debuff, so you probably would kill things a bit faster with the templar/monk combination, although this doesnt factor in how much dps the healer can contribute. Personally I would go with mystic but betray to a defiler. ;^)

Also there are a few mobs around that will 1 shot a monk without wards on. Last dude in HOF comes to mind.

a previous poster already cited the reason/s why a monk/mystic combination rocks. i'm just adding my two-cents worth of concurrence. =)because of wards, buffs and debuffs, a shammy generally duo's really well with any class that has high-avoidance/high-damage. just make sure the two of you are as nicely geared up as possible and adventuring in eq2 will be a very pleasurable experience indeed.i speak from personal experience, having maxed out a monk/mystic duo with my husband and we could handle any zone or instance. with a sneaky added into the mix (a friend who plays an assassin), we were pretty much unstoppable. now, my mystic most often duo's with a brig (in all-fabled gear) and the two of us can clean up most T7 heroic zones (e.g. OoB except last boss, but we keep trying =P).cheers!

A templar can solo heal a monk for all group content just fine even CMM Reactives + stone skin + quick direct heals is enough. A mystic is nicer for healing a monk but is not required. My personal favorite is a defiler for healing me. While on a raid though monks really need to have wards.

Plus what part of CMM. Sage encounter can be pretty nasty on a single healer with the aoes.
