I only started playing EQ recently (about the same time the most recent GU came out). I have been trying to find some advice or analysis of the AA trees for the monk but i cant find anything that i cant see for myself in-game (i.e. basic descriptions etc.) and all the threads/discussions i see seem to be talking about something totally different. I have 2 questions, firstly, for the sake of my sanity..... when i see a discussion about a spec of 4/4/8 in trees x/y/z is that old information? I dont see how 3 numbers are corresponding to 5 tiers. Secondly i have seen no discussion at all of the second tree. Is this all recent enough content that most of what im reading is redundant or am i missing something? :S Secondly, assuming the trees have changed, what is a good leveling/raiding set-up and should i be focusing on the "Monk" tree of the "Brawler" one. Play-style wise i prefer dps, i think the threat dump type stuff looks good but im not sure if monks really need it in a solid raid group, im also not too sure how different damage abilities stack up against each other since i haven't really been playing long enough to get a good feel for that so some advice there would be greatly appreciated too. Thanks in advance for the help, sorry it got a bit long

There are 5 tiers, but many AA builds only use the first three. All of the KOS lines go stat/attack/offensive bonus/defensive bonus/end cap. Since to get to the end cap you have to spend 4 extra points in a defensive ability you might not even want, many people just go for 448 to max out the offensive bonus.

I'm not sure what you're talking about when you say the second tree. Do you mean the agility tree, or do you mean the second ability in each tree?

Thanks for the reply Cornbread, i can see now how the def items in those trees would take points away from pure dps. By second tree i mean there is a "Monk" tree and a "Brawler" one. The Brawler tree fits the discussions i have seen and the reply you gave (has the 5 lines of 5 tiers). The Monk tree has a more complex criss-cross of skills/prerequisites but they are all from one of 3 categories (Combos, Body and Awareness). EDIT: Found a site with the 'Monk' tree abilities to clarify what i meant; http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Monk_AAs
